I've pretty much lost hope for a new JSR game so when I saw this game I got pretty excited. My excitement shot through the roof when it was recently announced that Hideki Naganuma, the Jet Set Radio composer, will be doing the game's soundtrack. This might be the spiritual successor that I always wanted.
- Large open world to skate around in
- Many unlockable characters with upgradeable stats
- Online multiplayer with cooperative and competitive modes
- Soundtrack composed by Hideki Naganuma
- Oculus Rift support
- Coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U
The devs are gonna be announcing a Kickstarter soon to raise some more funds so there may be even more features added to the game. The game is only being developed by three people though so even if nothing new is added I can't complain. Y'all should be hyped, too.
I dunno man, Jet Set Radio left a bad taste in my mouth...

Your complains for JSR were that the controls were stiff and that you hated the time limit. This game has none of those things. Did you even watch the video? This game plays much more like JSRF which I'm sure you'd like if you were able to play it.
I watched the video
Almost makes me wish for an open world Sonic Game...almost.
But we're all gonna play this together, we gotta decide on what ver. to get it on.

Why would you get it on Wii U when you can get it on PC where it will likely have better support?
But if you must get it on Wii U, the devs are looking into cross-platform play so hopefully we'd be able to play together no matter what.

Because I want to.

Oh, okay. Well, have fun playing by yourself if cross-platform play doesn't happen.
Thank you, I will
And you continue having fun playing that 3DS by yourself.

I won't have to because the 3DS has a thriving online community.
And the Tekken Tag 2 and Monster Hunter Communities are totally dead
Yup, I'll be playing that Wii U all alone.

Somehow I don't think an indie game on the Wii U will have a thriving online community.

Indie games on PS3 don't have thriving online communities
Hell, AAA fighting games on consoles don't always have thriving online communities
Depends on the game and how long the community continues to give a shit.
Or life happens.
I lost interest when I saw it was first person, but that interest flooded back when I saw it wasn't required. I hate PC gaming and Indies in general, but I might try this if I get the chance. I doubt I'm buying it, though.

I'm not saying its new, i'm saying it's the new designer drug.
As in, it's the "new thing" (designer drug) that every dev likes to implement in their games.
This and "open" gameplay

You hate PC gaming and indies? Any rational reason why?
Looks radical, although I was hoping to see spray painting like Jet Set Radio had.
But I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, the game looks fun and I can't wait to play it.

The Kickstarter is up. (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/midgarstudio/hover-revolt-of-gamers)
Only a $38,000 goal, but it turns out that the Hideki Naganuma soundtrack and Wii U version are stretch goals ($60k for the former and $100k for the latter). Their reasoning for this is that those things cost extra money and they'd rather set a lower base goal to ensure that they can at least fund the game. I kinda agree, although it is kinda weird that they advertised those two things as if they were definitely happening.
I guess you might not get the Wii U version after all.
Well, the 60'000 Goal is a must.
Apparently the base goal does include a few songs by Naganuma, but the stretch goal will get us a full Naganuma soundtrack. Sounds good to me.
Then I'll donate after the Wii U ver. is confirmed.

YES! YES! FUCK YEAH!
I think this will certainly reach 80000 as well.
I haven't backed myself, but I'm thinking of doing the $150 one, just so I have a physical copy.
I'm curious to see what the graffiti mode is like, but I'm totally hyped for a new Naganuma soundtrack.
I think every reward above the $30 mark is kind of a ripoff, but if you're gonna donate $150 you'd better do it before the rewards run out.
Well look at that, we got the Wii U version.
So I'll keep my promise and make a pledge.

And with only 16 hours to spare.
Also they gave a popular YouTuber a copy of the alpha and he uploaded two videos of it here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4aGDz6Xiko) and here. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8omHPhOKpm0) For an alpha, the game looks pretty good. There are still some annoyances I can see, but they have a long time to develop and improve the game.

To think I as just about to go to bed.
Do you usually sleep for 16 hours?
If I went to bed now, I'd wake up at 7, so that's 8 hours
I go out to deal with my dogs, come back in have breakfast while watching the pokemon anime, which is normally done by 10:30, so that's 11hrs 30 minutes, Then I'd probably play Child of Light for another 2 hrs which makes it 13hrs 30mins.
The time would be 12:30 so I'd check the E-Shop, then raise Pokemon in PKMN Y while watching something on Twitch for about 3 hours, making it 16hrs 30mins
So yes, I would've missed it.
Kinda wish they would've reached the grappling hook goal now xD
I wonder what the asymetric mode is for Wii U

I'd rather they just focus on the skating and don't add too many movement gimmicks.
Asymmetric mode will probably be one dude piloting a police bot with the GamePad while the other tries to keep away.
The devs have been releasing Making Of videos of the game for a while now.
Part 1 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMared_6dUE)
Part 2 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wyGBugl-lc)

Also the alpha was sent out to backers a while ago. Here is some gameplay footage of that (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfWmi9GrCh0), where you can also hear what I believe is an original Hideki Naganuma composition for the game. Haku, you should have pledged more so you could have gotten the alpha!

Well the game is still in alpha so who knows how things will change. I personally don't mind it. The world doesn't look
that sparse.
The game will be available to buy on Steam Early Access on April 6th. (http://store.steampowered.com/app/280180) Haku, you'll probably be able to play it then (even though I know you HAAAATE Early Access games).
Hover is now available for purchase on Early Access. For some reason though they aren't sending Steam keys to their backers until it's out of Early Access. That's really dumb.
When games are out on Early Access means they aren't done with making it, maybe they want to give the people that funded them the full finished game.
The third alpha build is out for Early Access owners. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH8yqez175Y) Looks like a fairly big improvement.
And good news for Haku, because apparently Kickstarter backers who pledged enough for the final game will be getting e-mails with an Early Access code. I know you hate Early Access games, but you should at least give it a shot.
