Oooookay Episode 3 and we're suddenly introduced to humour.
Lots of it.

I like where this is going.

From my experience, animes that pull that stunt either end up with everyone dead, or a surprisingly heart warming and merry ending...
I hope for the latter.

Well, Episode 4 and they've found a proper balance between jokes and serious.
I'm loving this all the way.

This is the first time a show has become an "event" for me since... since, well, Primeval on ITV (UK) / BBC America in '08.

Clearly you never watched FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Now, Episode 5... my god. I did not see that coming.
it was so...
...my god.

And no sex joke or other stupid perverness as of now! MORE anime should be like that. Not necesseraliy this dark, but with the same high niveau.

Tanassy

This is interesting me slightly more after reading this.

I watched FMA and it certainly had sex jokes. I doubt that changes with the sequel

It's not a sequel, it's the anime adaptation of the manga whereas the first anime, the one you watched was it's own original story.

... then what the fuck is the point of it

It's the same up until about when Nina gets chimera'd. From around there, the first anime is its own thing and Brotherhood is based solely on the manga.

That's like asking what's the point of spin-offs...

The first anime caught up with the manga, so instead of going into filler, it just did its own thing until the end.

Hakudamashi

And then when the manga was close to ending, FMAB was made to follow the manga through and through.

And I've heard they were planning on doing the same thing with Soul Eater.
