If it wasn't clear already: the 3DS has not been a home run for Nintendo. In its revised earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2012, the company dropped its estimated profit to ¥20 billion ($257M), an 82 percent drop from the ¥110 billion ($1.41B) it expected. The company stated the modification had been done to reflect "trends of stronger-than-expected yen appreciation and sales performance, the decided price reduction of the Nintendo 3DS hardware, and the sales outlook for the holiday season." Nintendo plans to reduce the 3DS from ¥25,000 to ¥15,000 (approx. $317 to $190) in Japan this August.
The steep profit reduction isn't Nintendo's only glaring concern, as the company couldn't regain investor confidence after announcing the Wii U at E3 and its stock currently sits at five-year lows.
For the first quarter ending June 30, Nintendo saw its net sales cut by half from the same period last year to ¥93 billion ($1.2B), causing a ¥38 billion ($489M) loss in operating income, with a net loss for the quarter staying relatively even to last year's at ¥26 billion ($334M).
Will selling the 3DS at a loss even help all that much?
I think it could. Nintendo is the only company that sells their hardware at a gain anyway, if I remember correctly.
Really? Well in that case..
Maybe if the launch titles didn't suck
This is the reason MML3 was canceled.

3.) Sales on the 3DS
The Nintendo 3DS was projected to be a popular device because it was made by Nintendo. That is why it was determined that MML3 would be on this hand held. But as of April 26, 2011, Nintendo only sold "3.6 million units of 3DS worldwide through the end of March" (Wired). Nintendo originally expected for the 3DS to sell "4 million hardware units and 15 million software units. . ." (1up).
The reason for this low outcome has to do with multiple factors, including: a $250 price tag, a bad American economy, popular games are few and far in between, and the supposed health risks associated with Stereoscopic 3D. CAPCOM obviously did not expect for the 3DS to perform this poorly. In fact, they probably expected it to be as successful as the original DS, which sold over 500,000 units in its first week on the market (Twice).
It is a risky move to sell a cult-classic game on a hand held that does not sell as expected. CAPCOM would much rather sell popular franchises on consoles that are constantly successful, such as the PS3 or Xbox360. The fact that many 3DS owners are complaining that there is no use to own a 3DS now that MML3 has been cancelled proves this to CAPCOM. Remember, CAPCOM is in the business to make money. Developers are in the business to make games.

The launch titles SUCKED DICK. only Three of them were playable, and barely any other game has came on the 3DS since then. A full year will have to come before 3DS gets better titles.

The DS had a better launch day
The DS was completely new to the market.
And it played GBA games, which were good.
I think that the DS was in a better potions.

I would feel sorry for them if they didn't price a handheld the same as a console...

It's going to be the same story for the Vita... i wonder if Sony does a desperate thing like Nintendo did and makes it half price within the first few months it comes out...
The Vita has way better Launch-Titles that actually come out at launch.

You say "Better" But the truth is, you haven't played them.
Like how many said the 3DS's games looked fantastic but they were horrible.

Oh.
Okay.
Its called PlayStation Vita.
They renamed it from Next-Gen-Portable; NGP.

I haven't listened to many opinions as of late...
I'd say give the system a little more time to churn out some decent games. I mean we are supposed to be getting Starfox 64 3D and a new Smash Bros.
On that note, I really hope Starfox doesn't fail

I read some reviews. It looks and sounds fucking amazing, this coming from an absolute SF nut.

Ok so far it sounds promising, that's good
the deal is, why would anyone spend money on somewhere where almost nothing comes back?
In the Timespan from the 25.-31. July where a Total of 16'415 Nintendo 3DS' sold.
14'000 of thouse between the 25. and the 28. of July.
In the Timespan from the 29th to the 31th it where. 3'000 Geräte.
But it seemd the second-hand/used market is booming for 3DS.
Appreantly alot of People sell their Systems again.
Spellcheck? o3o...
I bought a 3DS for $350, and I found it completely worth it. I haven't even played any actual, retail games yet! I think it doesn't sell very well because of the misleading articles regarding the 3D and the lack of games.
And the thing is, even I wouldn't have known without getting one myself. It's a letdown in that aspect but when you're actually holding the thing in your hands you have a new perspective.
The idea of spending doesn't always roll around to what you're getting back. even so, I'm pretty much getting all I payed for, and it aint even september yet.
Pokedex 3D almost makes up for the all the stuff I could've bought with my $350
Like more controllers
Pokedex 3D is amazing. And oh my god, those AR games..
Thx for reminding me about the AR thing
Hahaha
Also, I love Face raiders. =3
I would appreciate face raiders more if I could play it in public...
Pff, why can't you?

David the Nasarin.
The Nintendo 3DS is awesome, deal with it.
No.
Watch it.
It doesn't matter if its good. All that matters is if it sells well. Which it wasn't. Because you can't charge that much for a portable system when people have been spoiled by phones that have free/cheap as $1 games they can download anywhere.
Correct you are. I'm gonna get $5000 and get 20 PS3's. I'll be back in a few milliseconds.

They don't sell those anymore son. Only thru eBay & shit like that. Kiss that dream goodbye..sorry.
I wanted one too. >:U
3DS is a bit 'meh' to me. It's just a bunch of fancy screens. It's like the Ipad. Pretty soon every company will mimic this idea. JUST like what happened to the wii. I bet at least 20 years from now at least 2 portable consoles with the 3D.
don't get me wrong; it's pretty awesome, but it's like what I said
and the price drop was something Nintendo needed to do. When the other devices show up, they're gonna compete, so doing this will have a slight jumpstart.
Anyone else find it shameful that the price drop happened before even half a year of it's release?

I know how you feel. But the thing is, when you actually have one, it changes everything. There's no way to sell something you can't show, and the 3D effect is something you can only see with your own eyes. When you do, trust me, you'll think differently.

I've played a 3DS and still don't give two shits for the 3D effect. I just want to keep up with the games...Oh, and watch Lilligant dance for me. :P

Although, I'm gonna get some dough at the end of the month. And then a 3DS sometime later
3DS sales up 260 percent after price cut
