That's pretty odd, it was a NES version of Rick Roll that sounds exactly like the original, cut due to memory constrains, you can watch the CGR review of it though.

A bullet hell shooter, and sometimes fighting games, about the adventures of a Shrine Maiden and a Witch in a fantasy land surrounded by fairies, gods and demons based on Japanese mithology. The music is really good.
Funny thing is that many of it's fan works surpass the original games:

I'm not a Touhou fan myself but even I have to applaud it because it has the most talented fanbase I've ever seen.

Now that you mention it, I guess there's nothing so special about it.
Yes, the characters are really likeable and the music is amazing, but other than that there's nothing differentiating them from the crowd.
I guess people, myself included, just like it.
