Well, this came out of nowhere...
Cool, i guess?
Holy shit, I can actually understand them =O
Where are his tattoos, corncob pipe, and speech impediment?
Did they seriously change Popeye to make him more kid-friendly?

Welcome to the future - Where everything that might be even just slightly offending to someone, is bad.
Think about all the parents. =(

There are characters in kids cartoons with tattoos and pipes all the time. I doubt that many people would complain about it.
But the real question is whether or not he'll finally go to jail for committing homicide.

People do.
Enough to have changed applied.
They removed the cigarette in the One Piece dub.
The new Constantine TV Show doesnt allow Constantine to smoke, because of the children
And now this pipe.
Hell, there are people who wanted Dragonball banned, since it makes children violent.
Anything can offend
anyone nowdays - even if they dont even consume the content in question.
I want to bring up creative freedom again, but I'd be fighting a losing battle.

There's a difference between cigarettes and a pipe.

No there isn't.

No there isn't.
Kids cartoons from the last couple of decades never depict cigarettes, but they still occasionally show pipes. There isn't as much of a stigma against them as there is cigarettes.
I've never cared for Popeye and when I heard Tartakovsky was making this I didn't really care. But that is actually looking pretty good. Don't think I've seen a CG movie animated like that. And it made me smile at least.
Also I had no idea that's what Tartakovsky looked like.
Looks really nice. I am sure me and my familly will enjoy it, even with the censorship(?).

Kids cartoons in the past also had alot of adult jokes, were'nt afraid to poke fun at prostitutes, showed daggers, guns.
But all of that, including pipes, have come under the watchful eye of cencorship overtime.
Pipes weren't a big deal then, but they are now, because the bottom line is that he's smoking.

Up above I posted a picture of a Frosty the Snowman movie that came out in 2005. Notice the corncob pipe. And that's a movie made for very young kids.
But it's 2014 now.
Fine, I'll concede that maybe they didn't want their main character smoking a pipe (even though it's freaking Popeye). But for what reason would they get rid of his tattoos? Who the hell wants tattoos censored?
Cause they don't want their kids to get tattoos cause it ruins their skin or somethin.

They probably also don't want kids punching each other, and yet it's a Popeye movie.
Noone threw a punch...
'Cept that one random quick asshole
Who was already depicted as an asshole.
Who hit first.
If you really think that Popeye isn't gonna throw a single punch in this movie, then...I hope you're wrong.
I think that we're all forgetting that this is a movie about a man who shot someone in cold blood and got away with it in the 70's.

No, you can get away with violence as long it's silly violence.
Hell, aside from Avatar / Korra - What other US produced show depicts violence like that?
None. Everything is on 'Adult Swim'

I'm more surprised you don't like Tartakovsky...
He was one of the key figures for Dexters Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack

I can't believe noone has pointed out that Popeye has hair.

I do like Tartakovsky. But I don't care about Popeye and even him doing it didn't make me interested til I saw this.
