So Haku was kind enough to read through Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer and I felt that I owed him a solid since he actually finished reading it (fuck you, Kyo). He praises the Clannad anime so I felt like that'd be a good pick to watch through. I have no idea if I'm gonna watch the entire series or just the first season, or even if I'll quit before that out of disgust. Only time will tell!
I only watched the first episode so far but...this show is weird. I can't tell if it's supposed to be grounded in reality or not. There's ghost girls, a super-strong schoolgirl that can jump a mile into the air, and a weird girl with McDonald's arches in her hair who apparently knows how to make wishes come true. That said, the characters are actually pretty well done. I think I recall Haku praising the characters and I see what he means. Even when the show uses clichéd anime tropes like the super-shy girl who is totally gonna be the main character's love interest, it does it in a way that isn't totally shallow.
It's still way too early for me to judge the show but I think I'm gonna like it. Has anyone else other than Haku seen the anime?
He wants me to watch it too but I'm the much less reliable person. I'm getting sick again though so anime time should be right around the corner.
It'd be great if you stuck around for After Story, but that'd be like 50 episodes, so we'll see.
Also, Tomoya and Tomoyo are my faves.
And just a heads up, yes, there are supernatural elements in the anime as you have seen, but it stays pretty grounded for the most part.
Is it?
Well I like it.
Wikipedia says it's Drama, Fantasy and Romance.

it feels like a harem.
That might be because it's based on a visual novel.
It's not a harem.
But because it's adapted from a Visual Novel with multiple routes, it's gonna feel like one especially in the beginning.
There are 3 or 2 side 25 min OVAs where he goes with other girls, if you're interested.
And in the VN, he can also go gay for Sunohara.
Your guess is as good as mine.
He has his reason.
No and no.
Cause she's the first girl you meet
Y'know, walking up the hill to school and there she is standing by herself randomly saying "Anpan"
Personally, I would have went with Tomoyo.
Hm?
I thought you were asking if she was obvious?
It's not like the VN forces her on you.
Well regardless, I like Nagisa, so whatevs.
Why is Assassin's Creed Unity not Assassin's Creed 5?
Yes, they are different paths.
If you're asking why they're separated in the first place, it's to do with air time.
Long running shows gotta pay for their slot on TV, so when it comes time that they want to either improve their animation or get new staff or something like that, they either gotta make the old team do filler, pay to have the show on re-runs, or give up their slot.
So what they do is opt to give up the slot of the old show, and secure that slot to replace it with the "new show" where they get their new managment n' stuff.
Other long running anime like One Piece and Rurouni Kenshin didn't have to do that cause either their management and or tools remain unchanged, or their popularity was soo high, that even if they gave up their slot to be on hiatus, they could easily get it back.
That is my vague recollection of the explanation a friend gave me.
Well the VN expansion itself is called "Clannad:After Story", so maybe they wanted to be name faithful n' stuff.
No, he's well aware of their affection for him, he has his reason for not wanting a girlfriend, one that I personally can understand
He strings them along cause he's a jerk.
Don't feel sorry for Sunohara.
I disliked 5 Cm/s Cause Tadaki was a little bitch the entirety of when Akarai left cause of the decisions he made
And I am aware of that.
He helps out a lot, and he will continue to help out plenty, but don't feel sorry for him, more on that in After Story.
Too bad for her.
The very last episode of part 1.
Well, there's the OVA where he does get with Kyou, so you can watch that when you're done.
It's a magical pig.
And yes, all those things get addressed in After Story, don't worry.
As for the other characters, they get plenty of screentime for the first half of After Story, but the second half focuses heavily on Tomoya and Nagisa, so be prepared for that.
So I take it you'd watch the OVA when you're done?
Also, if I recall correctly, I think the affection was one sided. Pretty sure it was Tomoya who was into Nagisa, but Nagisa thought nothing of it, he was just a good friend.
But I'm pretty sure it was as a really good reliable friend, not romantic.
I think the important thing to take away from this is that the hand is indeed apart of the body.
I cared...

Dat memory bank.

Goddamnit Haku, now all I want to do in my free time is watch more Clannad. Thanks a lot.
I'm sorry?

I think Tomoya is a compulsive liar.
You're only figuring this out now?
Well the first few episodes are them fucking about in their last days of high school, so it's kinda aimless for now.

This dialogue sounds pretty frickin creepy out of context.

Is that the official dub?
It's good, but some of the voices seem a bit off.

Man, that street gang story arc was dumb as hell.
Rainbows tho.

So, like, are we ever gonna find out what's up with Nagisa's illness? This is the second time she's had to redo a year because of it. Maybe they should figure out what's wrong with her before forcing her to do another year that she might not even finish.
Didn't you already hear about the illness? Y'know, she went out in the snow?
Quote from: Elija2 on February 11, 2015, 09:37:49 AM
Tomoya's kind of a jerk for ditching Nagisa to do his job when Yusuke was able to cover for him. He'd seriously rather work than hang out with the love of his life?
Hey man, hanging out with your girl doesn't pay the bills.
Quote from: Elija2 on February 11, 2015, 12:21:44 PM
Yeah but, like, how is that still causing her to get a months-long flu years after the fact?
I could go into the biology of it, but instead I'll just say the wizard did it.
Nah, I'm good.
Tho I will admit it's a work of fiction for it to last this long.
That or Nagisa is born with a deficiency we don't know about.
Or maybe the local doctors are just as confuzzled.

Sunohara with black hair tho. And why the heck is blonde hair on a guy not socially acceptable but purple hair on a girl is? That's not even a natural hair colour!
Because Kyou and Ryou didn't dye theirs :P
Yes he did, black is his natural colour, he dyed it blonde.
You need to understand that every Asian person ever has black hair, maybe brown once in a decade.
Why would they create a fictional world where everyone has black hair?
With true love, you can do it anywhere, and everywhere.
Everything comes full circle.
Because she wanted to breed her own love baby man.
Yeah
That really was everyone's fault.
Well, you probably might enjoy the very last thing you need to watch.

Wait, hold on. Were all those times that Nagisa and Tomoya were remembering the play actually times when they were remembering the alternate timeline where Nagisa died? Is this show pulling a 999?
Are you not entertained?
So, how bad was it? Now that you seen all the main stuff.
I see, fortunately I didn't put soo much thought into the ending, I got that Tomoya collected enough orbs to have a wish granted, and that was enough for me.
Well, glad to know you didn't fucking hate it like I thought you would.
Because I'm a very pessimistic nervous wreck.
I thought you figured that out.
So how was the Kyou episode?
Oh, I'm over that, I'm talking in general.
Pretty much.
I'm not going to do that, ever.
Happy to be of no help.
20 years in the making.
Probably not.
