(Sonic 3 and Sonic Knuckles count as separate titles despite their grouping.)

After voting you should have a single point left over. You may use this to vote up another zone regardless if you have already voted for that game.

Several games in the 3D era have ditched the standard "Zone layout". As such defining what exactly a zone was was a difficult task, however, this area will be used to explain my reasoning:

Sonic Adventure

While the zones in this game were not directly labeled as such defining what a zone was was easier than the later games. Each act took place in one of the game's main areas, as such I consider these Sonic Adventure's "zones".

Sonic Adventure 2

The levels in this game all had names despite having similar themes. While I was thinking or grouping them all based on themes Sonic Generations distinction or City Escape and Radical Highway being zones (despite them having similar stages such as Mission Street) convinced me to classify them all as one act "zones".

Sonic Heroes

Sonic Heroes actually did have zones, I just too inspiration from Sonic Generations and named the entire zone after it's first act. Act 2 is in parenthesis.


This list only includes MOST of the main games. Shadow the Hedgehog is not there because I'm not sure how I'd classify each zone and because I'm horribly tired and just forgot about it. Games such as Sonic Chaos, Sonic R, Sonic Drift and others that I don't consider "main" are also not on here.

You also forgot End of The World - Sonic 06, If I'm not mistaken.. but I suppose that's not really it's own "zone".

Anyway, I made my decisions, what are the reserved spaces?

Deep Core and Big Swell are stuck together because from what I read they were boss only levels and I believe I stuck things like Doomsday and Death Egg together. I figured they were the same thing.

End of the World was left out because I figured it was the same as the ones the came before it.

I guess I can see your point with Big Swell and Deep Core but besides the purple lighting effect if you take too long EotW just seems to be the "gauntlet" stage. Like Cannon's core but with reused themes. I figured it wasn't that different because it reused things from the same game.

Also I forgot SA2's GHZ but I can't change that now.

Well I dunno about "best", but my favourite is definitely Rooftop Run from Sonic Unleashed
The level design, the length, DAT SONG!!!!! Before this, the only other zone that got me this excited was Egg Fleet from Sonic Heroes.

Even still, Crisis City is the greatest level i have ever played. Both in 06 and Generations. Music is good, level design is good, just good all around.

Honestly, my most favorite Zone has to be Green Hill. Sure, it's expected, but it's seriously awesome. The music is really catchy too. That, or Ice Cap Zone from Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
