Title: Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Post by: Elija2 on January 16, 2015, 09:00:23 AM
(http://monster-hunter.fr/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Logo-MH4U.png)

Anyone else getting this game? I'm really pumped for it because it's the first one I'll be able to play with online multiplayer. Playing Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on 3DS was fun but I felt like I was missing out because I was playing alone. I'm hoping I'll be able to go hunting with some of you guys. If only Tana were still around...

To those of you new to Monster Hunter, this game is supposed to be more beginner friendly than the rest so this is the best game to finally jump into the series with.

Nintendo recently sent out a couple of special demo codes to select people with Club Nintendo accounts (not including me :(). The demo has online multiplayer so if anyone else has it we could try playing together. I'm sure Haku has a couple extra codes to give away.

The limited edition Monster Hunter 4 New 3DS XL is pretty slick. It even comes with the game preinstalled, plus that C-Stick will make hunting monsters much easier.

Sorry, I'm not interested in Monster Hunter.
But I think Tana and Jkid are.

I forgive you.

Tana doesn't post here anymore, and jkid wouldn't even play Fantasy Life with me so there's no way he'd play Monster Hunter with me.

Hey jkid, will you play Monster Hunter with me?

There are billions of people who like Monster Hunter (Heck, I think I added myself to the list), surely you can find some people to play with.

Well, so much for that.

This is the first game that I've ever preordered. After missing out on Fantasy Life for a week because my local EB Games ran out of copies (and what a horrible week it was), I'm not taking any chances. If you preorder it you get this cute little pin that I'll probably never use:

Also the enhancements when playing on a New 3DS go beyond just control improvements; you also get better graphics and framerate. The game still looks okay on the old 3DS, and there's probably an option to completely disable 3D like in MH3U that will improve the framerate a bit.

Hey jkid, I couldn't help but notice that you are now the proud owner of MONSTER HUNTER 4 ULTIMATE. I'm guessing this will be another game that you'll refuse to play with me for reasons unknown.

I've explained me reasoning and "proud" is being generous. Though I do need more Hunters for Hire so if you wanna exchange Guild Cards...

Your reasoning is dumb. I don't care if you suck at Monster Hunter, nobody is good for the first hundred or so hours. Besides, I could teach you how to be better and then you could call me senpai.

I think the Sonic DLC was released a few months ago. That's what I remember from their Facebook page, or it might have been just an anouncement.

Also, are the Palicos any different than the Felynes you could hire in the previous games?

They do more things when they aren't hunting. You can have a team of them go on separate hunts and bring back special materials or you can have them train and fish. In battle they're pretty much the same, though.

Also, waiting on that Megaman outfit.

Maybe, but you've been unable to collect the materials to craft it until now.

Title: Re: Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

The gathering of materials, making traps, stocking items.
The preparation before the hunt.

And if you fuck up the hunt, you gotta gather that stuff again.

You really don't have to gather that much. Only if you want to craft new weapons/armour, which you only have to do once in a while. Everything else you get by naturally playing the game (gathering during quests) or paying to multiply materials you already own (and you're never short on cash in this game). It's been ages since I last went out to gather materials. And combining items and stocking your inventory is super easy. Combining is literally the click of a button in a menu, and you can register sets of items to quickly switch out your inventory to only carry what you need.

Learn to not suck. Alternatively, save before every hunt and reset the game if you fuck up.

Here is the video on that page from Capcom, posted May 4th, 2015. That was yesterday.

Here is a video from Nintendaan posted on May 1st, 2015. Three days earlier than Capcom's video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iABZL6-5z14

May 1st was the day my mother was taken to the hospital due to a "mini"-stroke. I spent most of that day watching Savannah and entertaining her with our 3DS systems. There's no doubt in my mind that that is when I found the theme and downloaded it.

Please go eat some dicks.

Seeing all the announcements the official Monster Hunter Facebook page keeps posting makes me wonder:
How much space does all the DLC coming for the game take?
How much memory does the 3DS have?

I'm assuming all of that stuff saves onto the SD card.

Not much. As far as I'm aware the files are already present in the game. Downloading the DLC just lets you chose what you want unlocked and what you don't in case you care about clutter and missions that don't interest you.

The files save on to your SD card and the largest capacity SD card a 3DS can use is 32GB. The standard SD card that comes with the system can hold just 2GB, but even that's more than enough.

This month's free DLC is here! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vqg8_D2jzno) Not only is there cool new Devil May Cry and Animal Crossing gear for your Palicoes, but Tetsuya Nomura also designed some new armour for this DLC pack. No crazy belts here! Not to mention all the new quests and other gear.

I just wish most of this stuff wasn't limited to G-Rank. If I could grind them I totally would. I thought about asking Eli to help me but I doubt the game would let me join him in a G-Rank quest.

The only DLC that requires G rank is the Chun Li and Megaman Palico gear as well as all the Metroid gear and most of the Nomura-designed gear. As I said before, I'd be happy to carry you to G rank if you'd like. What rank are you at right now?

Oh, come on! You can only use preset messages so it's not like anyone can insult you if you blow it. It's more than likely that it'll be someone else who keeps getting themselves killed.

The single-player and guild quests are meant to be done simultaneously. Did you even beat the single-player yet, because if you did then you won't even need any help getting through low-rank. You could probably solo it.

So you're barely halfway through the single-player? Geez, this is like a reverse Fantasy Life situation. Did you get better weapons and armour since reaching high-rank in single player? That's probably why you're having troubles with that monster. That and you should bring extra ingredients to craft more potions in case you run out. Also buy the powercharm and armourcharm from the shop and always carry them with you.

Well for most of the game I used my Teddie Bear Rhenoplos Armor just like I did throughout the entirety of 3U. After getting absolutely massacred by Hermitaur, though, I decided to grind some Zamtrios for their armor but it got boring so I put the game out and haven't really played it since. I managed to craft a hammer with thunder element using Barroth parts but that alone wasn't enough either. Didn't know Hermitaur marked the beginning of High Rank, though. Nothing really told me I needed to ditch my Low-Rank stuff.

In 3U I used to do that all the time. I can't do it in 4U yet, though, because I haven't gotten enough supplies yet. I'm trying to get a few stacks of Honey before I start farming Herbs.

Not for the single-player campaign, no. The final boss is in rank 9, although a 10th rank unlocks after that with some more quests.

Oh yeah, you unlock high-rank right after beating the Hermitaur. So I guess don't worry about upgrading your gear until after you beat it. I don't main the hammer so I can't really help you out with what weapon to craft, but for low and high rank the Tetsucabra armour set is usually your best bet for melee weapons.

Have you been doing the Wycoon's quests to unlock more carts to multiply? You really shouldn't be manually gathering potion supplies at this point.

I don't manually do anything, though. I've got all three carts unlocked and I'm pretty sure I've unlocked every farm too. It's just that I use my supplies more quickly than I can replenish them since I'm so damn antsy when it comes to taking stupid hits.

+13 health (which can easily be bumped to +15 with jewels), +10 defence, and -10 gathering (which can easily be bumped to -9 to avoid the bad effect). Once you get the high rank set it'll be even better with +10 health, +15 defence, +9 sharpening (which can be easily bumped to +10 to unlock the effect), and -12 gathering (which can also easily be bumped to avoid the bad effect). That should carry you up until G rank.

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j055E0qR6ck) No cool video game crossovers this time, but we do get the super rare, super powerful, and super rad-looking Star Knight armour set. So... anyone wanna play?

So some people created a method to create custom quests and play them in the game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tanQw8JzPF8). They were originally meant to be purely for fun and offer no rewards, but unfortunately some people abused it and created quests that easily increase your HR rank to the max and give you hacked rewards. Beware when playing online with randoms because you might accidentally take part in a custom quest. It shouldn't damage your save data, but if you want to keep your game pure you should definitely avoid them. I don't have a problem with people creating custom quests for fun new scenarios, but when people use it to cheat at the game then that just ruins it.

Haha, NOPE.

I'm all for these but not if they're as insane as the ones in that video. I also don't think it'd hurt for people to make easier variants of the special quests for people like me who want the Megaman Palico items but are stuck in Low Rank.

If you remain in Low Rank you'll be unable to participate in High and G Rank quests. You can also just start a quest yourself and avoid the exploits entirely.

But that's cheating!

I think the whole point of this is to give people who are at the end of the game something else to do. People who are near the beginning still have a whole game's worth of content to play.

And I've told you a million times that I'd be willing to help you get out of Low Rank but you wouldn't listen! Take the help when you can get it, man.

I don't think there's a way to filter them out of the online lobby search but if you pay attention to what quests you're joining you should be able to avoid them. Of if you notice that your HR suddenly jumps to 999 at the end of a quest then you can just power off without saving.

Uhh, your problem was that you couldn't beat the monster that unlocks High Rank. That has nothing to do with tedium, and the solution is to play that quest with other people (preferably me) because that's the whole point of the Gathering Hall quests.

Another month, another free DLC pack! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mc74luKsxo) There might not seem like much new content this month, but that White Fatalis is sure to keep you busy for a while!

In related news, I recently finished every single-player quest in the game. Well, except for the last one, but it's totally bullshit! I have to fight an Apex Deviljho, an Apex Diablos, and an Apex Seregios at the same time?!?! And it's in the Arena so they're all in the same area! If you run out of smoke bombs or use one too late then you're screwed! You don't stand a chance when more than one monster is aggroed! It sucks because I could totally take them on one at a time, but they shove two at you at once! Fuck that noise!

Fuck Arena quests with multiple monsters in general. I hate having to sheath my weapon every few seconds to throw down another smoke bomb so that the second monster doesn't go aggro on me. With multiple people they're bearable, unless one idiot goes gung-ho and aggroes both monsters at once. Doing the Star Knight armour quest was unbearable because of this, but luckily I found a room where people were a bit coordinated.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Apparently the trick is to place yourself between each monster so that one kills the other trying to hit you but that's never worked for me at all. What I'd do is just stock up on traps, Keg Bombs, Traq Bombs and the ingredients to make as many as possible and just pray that I could cheese my way through the fights be making them as immobile as possible.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Post by: Elija2 on August 07, 2015, 10:35:40 AM
The best tactic I've heard is to throw down a smoke bomb right away so that neither monsters can see you, and then aggro only one of them so that you can fight them one at a time. It worked really well for the Star Knight armour quest (once I could get people to cooperate).

I've never used Smoke Bombs before. Then again Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate are two entirely different beasts so I may just be out of the loop.

I can't remember if I used my bowgun set in 3U but those piercing shots wrecked shop, IIRC. Then again, I'm not sure about the specifics of the mission you're stuck on. I got pretty good at destroying Deviljho in 3U but I've yet to face him in 4U. Has he changed big time? If the mission is like Mark of a Hero I have to assume you find him first and then the other two, no?

I can't remember if I used my bowgun set in 3U but those piercing shots wrecked shop, IIRC. Then again, I'm not sure about the specifics of the mission you're stuck on. I got pretty good at destroying Deviljho in 3U but I've yet to face him in 4U. Has he changed big time? If the mission is like Mark of a Hero I have to assume you find him first and then the other two, no?

You never use smoke bombs? Dude, they make it so that the monsters in the entire area won't aggro unless you're right up to them or attack them. It's super-useful in these quests because you can throw one down, aggro one monster, lure them away from the other one, and then take them down without having to worry about the other one attacking you. Of course, the smoke only lasts temporarily so you have to keep throwing them down. It's probably easier to do that if you're a Sword and Shield user since they can use items with their weapon out.

I don't think I ever fought Deviljho in MH3U so I can't comment on how he's changed. I never got that far in MH3U, mainly because there was no online multiplayer. In this mission I'm stuck on you have to fight an Apex Seregios and an Apex Diablos together first, and then after you kill the first one you have a moment before the Apex Deviljho spawns. It's brutal.

FUCK YEAH, I managed to beat that stupid Master's Test quest. And with that, I'm done with all of the single-player quests. I wish there was a cool reward for finishing them all. When you beat all the low-rank quests you get the rainbow colour pigment for your armour, but for beating all the high-rank quests you get nothing! What's up with that?

Now I just have to finish the G3 urgent quest. I always hate doing urgent quests because only the person who initiates the quest gets to rank up. I'd feel bad to just ditch the room after beating it so whenever someone helps me with my urgent quest I always help them with theirs, but the Dah'ren Mohran, Dalamadur and Gogmazios quests are so time-consuming that I never feel like doing them twice. I actually did the Dah'ren Mohran and Dalamadur urgent quests solo just so I wouldn't have to worry about it (and also because I was tired of people carting during the Dalamadur quest), but I doubt I'll be able to beat Gogmazios on my own. Hell, the Dalamadur quest nearly took me the full 50 minutes to beat solo (and that's not counting all the failed attempts)! I'll probably just ask some people at NeoGAF to help me out with Gogmazios since they're usually pretty friendly about helping others.

I was lucky enough to find a great group of randoms to help me with my Gogmazios quest. Even with 4 good people, the quest still took 20 minutes and we almost carted 3 times. I never want to do that quest ever again, unless jkid wants me to help him with it (aka never).

Now I am the coveted G bronze crown rank. I should be able to upgrade my crown to silver but there is no way I will ever be able to reach gold. To get it you have to beat a Tigrex, a Zinogre, a Brachydios, a Gore Magala and a Seregios all at once in the Arena. And I thought The Master's Test was hard! To get silver I only have to defeat an Apex Rajang, and yeah I known that just fighting a regular Rajang was hard for me but at least this time I'll be able to fight it with others.

Back to school? More like back to hunting with this month's free DLC pack! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgjB036rQ6Y) That Pep Squad Palico gear looks pretty rad and thankfully it's pretty easy to get so I might actually go for that. There's also a new Gogmazios quest... hahahaha, fuck that.

It's time to fall into some new quests with this month's free DLC pack. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VJUEzspbIg) Nothing too special this time other than some gear that look cool but aren't really practical. There's a G-rank Dalamadur quest if anyone is enough of a sadist to grind it for materials. The GX Hunter armour set is available now too, but I'm not too keen on grinding a Furious Rajang for it.

Sadly this is the second to last month of free DLC. Hopefully they end it with a bang (although we already know what Japanese DLC they have yet to release).

Well, the final DLC pack is out. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFWGBf8s5_o) Some cool stuff was added like the Esurient armour set and monster masks. Not exactly the climactic end to the DLC packs that I was hoping for, but they had a good run. Look at all this stuff we got:

And sure, it was all on-cart DLC but it was still nice to be given new stuff to do every month. Not that I actually did them all though. Maybe I would have if any of you jerks would actually play with me! >:(

Hey, this game is on sale for only $23.99 on the eShop during Nintendo's Black Friday sale. Everyone who doesn't have it yet should totally get it! If you do, I'll even carry you to G rank myself!
