Title: Nintendo Wants To Buy Sega?
Post by: TheSonicGamer201X on December 11, 2012, 09:40:39 AM
Looks like it's going to change to:
it's-a-me-sonic!

Could hedgehog and plumber become step-brothers?

Rumorology had always tried to convince us about the most wacky things. This might seem like one of those.

According with EGM writer HipHopGamer, Nintendo is planning to buy SEGA. Yeah, that is, bluntly and without painkillers. Nintendo wants our blue boy.

At a video he reveals that in the past E3, Nintendo confirmed to him off camera that they would like to buy off Sega, at it would be a great addition to the Nintendo brand, and that they are always up to discuss that.

Nintendo Reps: It would be a great exclusive addition to the Nintendo brand and something that we're always up to discussing.

Since that doesn't assure anything, we cant be sure this is happening or not, but this is not the first time there have been rumors on Sega being bought by Nintendo. back in 2003, when Sega left the first party market. From there came several exclusive SEGA titles for Nintendo machines, like the Sonic Advance, Sonic adventure 2 Battle or Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg.

Now, Sega is closer to Nintendo as ever, with titles like Bayonetta 2, or the Mario & Sonic at the Olympics series. Could this be the start of a new future? With Sega current issues, this might be the saviour of the company. We will have to wait to know more, since this is a RUMOR , so take it with a grain of salt.

You can see HipHopGamer, of EGM fame, in this video talking about it, from 11:00 on

I don't see why this would be a bad thing. Sega's never going to go back into hardware. Nintendo would love to be able to control some of those properties and I'm sure Sega would love to have the money that Nintendo could back them with.

Oh no.
Nintendo purchasing SEGA and SEGA agreeing on that would be wrong as a business choice on oh so many levels.

I dunno.

PC Gaming - Total War, Warhammer & Warhammer 40k, Company of Heroes
External IP's - Warhammer, Aliens, Olympia

Then SEGA has a fuckton of Sony-Exclusive Franchises like Valkirya Chronicles and Yakuza.
Nintendo certainly wouldnt keep the PC Gaming branch and the External IP's would probably be returned.

They would have to downsize SEGA after the purchase to the development teams.
Thus, SEGA would become a Sonic-Shitting Machine.

And NiGHTS and Jet Set Radio and Space Channel 5 and Super Monkey Ball and Samba De Amigo and Shinobi and Skies of Arcadia and Power Stone
And why can't all those things go multiplatform or something?

Those are quite relevant nowdays.
Well, Super Monkey Ball actually is.

And what do you mean? If SEGA was bought by Nintendo, why would the games be multiplatform?

Wii-U and 3DS I mean.
Though thinking about it now, with this vendetta people have against Nintendo these days, I can see why noone would be happy about this.

Nintendo could always put those PC strategy titles on the Wii U.

But yeah, Nintendo buying Sega is extremely unlikely. Sega isn't a small company, and Nintendo really can't afford to spend a bunch of money on such an acquisition.

But hey, if Sega goes under and starts selling all of their IPs, Nintendo would probably grab a few of them.

Eh, I've go no qualms about this as long as they don't mess up the Sonic series. And it might actually get SEGA back into making hardware again (probably), I mean the Dreamcast didn't sell well and wasn't that popular but it did what the Xbox 360 and PS3 should've done from the start. Nintendo and SEGA are the only ones who are actually coming up with original ideas as far as I'm concerned...

the only reason why the dreamcast didn't sell so good is because of sega didn't add a stupid dvd player to it but it had a hell of alot of good games

Um, no. DVD was far from the standard when the Dreamcast came out. VHS was still widely used. Adding a DVD player may have helped it, but not including it certainly didn't hurt it.

The main reason the Dreamcast died is because it was sooooooo easy to play pirated games on the console. The console's use of the internet ensured that a large portion of its users had an internet connection. Even back then, ripping Dreamcast games from the disc, uploading and downloading them online, and burning them to disc was a very easy (if sometimes long) process. The problem was never truly fixed. Later versions of the console prevented the easiest method of playing pirated games by simply running them from CD-Rs, but even then there are relatively simple ways to get around this protection AND this was late enough in the Dreamcast's life that most Dreamcasts on the market didn't have this protection at all.

Yes, there were other factors that played into it, but the rampant piracy on the console is what killed it. Sony's had to deal with this too. Playing burned games on a PS2 is relatively easy as well, but the difference is that Sony makes most of its money from console sales rather than software. And since you did need a PS2 in the first place to play pirated PS2 games, it wasn't nearly as much as a problem. Also, DVD burners weren't as common at the PS2's launch as they are today, so piracy didn't get as bad for some time. The PS1 had a similar problem as the Dreamcast, but it hit later in the console's life (as CD burners became more common) and, again, had nowhere near the impact as it did on the Dreamcast.

Pirating Dreamcast games and playing them on the console is insanely easy today. PS1's pretty easy too, and the Wii.

The Wii had nothing to do with the demise of the Dreamcast, I was just drawing a parallel since the Wii faced a similar situation.

ps3 is much harder for jailbreaking i tried it my self and it said demonstration mode shit so jailbreaking ps3 is harder.  For the Wii people can easily put the homebrew channel on it its very simple

It's 1999 here, do you know how much it would cost to build Dreamcasts with DVD players? VHS was still being used, and Laserdiscs were slowly starting to fade away. DVD was still new too, and the players were usually $500 or up.

Yeah... that won't be happening any time soon. Personally I think Sega should release more Dreamcast games onto services like Steam, XBLA and Playstation Network.

It did hurt the PSP. A lot. It also sorta hurt the Wii, but Nintendo fought it with updates for awhile. Also, the Wii has a much larger userbase that have no idea what homebrew or piracy even is.
