There was an old thread but I decided not to bump the thread.  :-[

What I stare at to prove I have no life. Philips 17" LCD monitor. I definitely have no life spending hours sitting in front of this everyday.  :P Umm, excuse the mark on the screen, I think that was from my finger from when I was eating. :-[

This is my brains computer. You can see some of the specs on the front on the stickers. AMD dual core, Nvidia GeForce gfx card, 320GB HDD 2GB RAM etc. The HDD LED may look like it's on (the little blue light below the reset button) but really it was off, it always appears blue, just lights up whenever HDD being used like any other computer. You can also see the cables and plugs and stuff, the PC is useless without them of course. :P

Tanassy

good thing i have my DSi handy for pics.

sonicmaddave

What you taking pictures or something? ;)

My case from the side, looking thru the window into the guts of the beast. sorry no flashy lights etc.

My case, turn your head a bit.. how boring

what I stare at to prove my un-lifelikelyness
equipped with sonicroms.net awesomeness (and glare)

i took these with my DSi so crappy quality lol

trick of the light, my case is silver not white k? and it has a door at the front hehe

sonicmaddave

nice setup there bro :P let me guess you built it yourself or something? ;)

Tanassy

yeah. the GFX card is a  NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX+
my cpu is AMD athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+

you can see its mixed lol

and i have 2GB of RAM which is more than enough

sonicmaddave

Your PC and mine is sort of even, I have Athlon 64 X2 3800+ running at standard speed 2.4GHz, gfx is Nvidia GeForce 7600GS fanless card for quietness, 2GB RAM, 320GB SATA Western Digital HDD, in fact I'll get a picture of the guts of mine

and here we are. Well an old pic it's PSU has been changed for a decent one since then and has less cable clutter but more or less the same. :P

Tanassy

nice beast.
my cpu runs a 2Ghz per core. not oC'd or anything.
Its a pretty old PSU but it manages. its pretty quiet but not silent if ya know what i mean
although it can get a *little* hot

The old PSU in this became very unstable and the PC kept crashing and the screen kept displaying random faults which disappeared when I purchased and fitted a new PSU, the old PSU was for starters not powerful enough it seems, and it's fan was also noisy. My PC is very quiet, I have a front case fan now, a rear case fan, and the side intake for the CPU fan can take a 80mm fan so I added one onto that, and its still quiet yet has lots of airflow. :P

Also, Gleech its good to see your Mac finally. Wow the size of the screen though thats huge. XD

Gleech

yeah XD

The best part, is that theres no tower to it, the CDs go in on the side.

Yup... Don't have much room. Totes right beside me, About 4 and a half feet away from the nearest tote, and I have about 2 - 2 and a half feet to walk. Not good for a guy who likes to pace...

AND my monitor rumbles your finger like getting electrocuted. And it hurts, not as badly though.

I'll probably hold off for a while, can't afford it right now as car is getting repaired and I just don't want to upgrade. :P

Anyway I did a global performance benchmark on my PC to see how good it is, and here's the results:

The CPU is crap according to it and so is the memory. What I might do when I have the money is upgrade the CPU as this board supports Phenoms etc. CPU is shit compared to the HDD. :o

in a fps(first-person shooter)game like Counter-Strike, you can see through walls with wallhack or just being able to locate your enemy's location.

sonicmaddave

ah right well thats not a wallhack it appears to be some sort of emulator glitch with Quake 64 where I can look through walls and stuff and see the sprites through the walls, and sometimes all sprites on the screen flicker on and off rapidly, or is that a same thing? only I didn't have to hack. :P

sonicmaddave

Well I had some downtime while the forum was down as well, due to my own problems, my CPU had failed, so I replaced it with a Sempron, and all being well the PC works again. It seems to be running just as good with the Sempron.

Moved my desk now the PC is repaired. Here is the computer in it's new location.

Inside the PC. I removed the Gigabyte branded fan from the rear to the front, as it is very quiet yet has lots of airflow, and added a 80mm Foxconn fan from the CPU cooler to the rear. The Foxconn fan is noisy, however I added a PCI fan speed cooler to it, to turn it down to a quiet level.

Quiet intake fan

Was noisy, now quiet exhaust fan. Even though it has been silenced with a variable fan speed adjuster, it still gives off a lot of air flow and the PC runs even cooler than ever before.

Tanassy

good u managed to fix ur comp :D

i also got a new fan because my mb was heating up heaps. all fixed now i have about 5 fans lol.

sonicmaddave

Is your computer actually noisy with 5 fans? :P

Tanassy

its actually pretty good, just a little above average which doesnt bother me when i think about the performance im getting :P

sonicmaddave

Ah right cool well I am obsessed about my PC being quiet, all fans only give off a slight hum, and you can hear the HDD being accessed, but it's not too loud, I have to rely on the blue HDD light being lit in noisy situations. :P

It's actually easy when you get used to it, I had experience from toying about with an old Compaq Presario desktop from the late 90s. I learned all the different parts and gained experience like that, so I was self-taught in this stuff. I am also self-taught when it came to electrical stuff, but to get qualifications I had to go to college anyway. ;)

A few pics of my computer during the wait for repairs:

On the dining room table, waiting for the part. That's why you see a pair of socks which happen to be mine.  :-[

The HDD has to be forward a little bit due to the front fan, therefore causing a tight fit between the HDD and the CPU fan. HDD is a Western Digital Caviar Blue.

The processor gets installed in this, and the heatsink gets installed on top. The heatsink takes heat from the processor and dissipates it away from the processor to prevent damage. ;)

Thats the new processor installed with the fan over it, so you can't see it. :P

Neat cabling for the front, fan connection and HDD cable. :P

Final shot, the computer getting the HDD wiped when XP is getting reinstalled. The HDD LED is lit up in the pic. :P

Yeah i know.I just want to make you feel young ;D

sonicmaddave

Well I am really young compared to the asshole boyfriend of my sister, when he was my age, it was like 20 years before I would be born. ;D

Tanassy

that just makes me uncomfortable...

Shadow26

Did it work Fusion? What i said about the Asus computer and it's heating up?

Dracoslythe

Mah piece of lovable junk; Acer Aspire (no, that's not my reflection.  My screen is REALLLLLLYYYYY dirty)

And a semi- closed view.  It's really thin, but I didn't bother taking more than two pictures.  xD

Fiamonder

Lol Draco. I almost have the exact same laptop.

First try at making a sig, It's decent.

Shadow26

Hey guys,look on the desktop.It's Megaman Jr! :o ;D

Tanassy

sonicmaddave

XD I am bidding on a quiet new fan on ebay to add to my PC. All fan vents will be in use then. :3

Tanassy

actually i kinda like the noise of mah aircon goin on next to me XD its also a way to beat summer :D

sonicmaddave

I have a friend who loves fans he collects fans, and takes pictures of air conditioners, he gave me a free fan which is over 30 years old, it's really cool and I am using it now. :D

However, I like my PC being as quiet as possible. :P

Fiamonder

My laptop also doesnt make any sound. Except if its reading a CD lol.

First try at making a sig, It's decent.

sonicmaddave

my computer makes some noise but thats because 1 fan is noisy but thats getting replaced along with another fan added to the side of the PC where the CPU intake is, the only other noise I hear is if a disc is in the drive, or the HDD being accessed.

Tanassy

sonicmaddave

I rather quiet, I only really like the HDD access noise.

Fiamonder

I like the noise of my POPCORNZ <3

My total uptime right now. :P Well, the ethernet didnt disconnect for this time and thats how long my PC has been running since I last turned it on. Yeah I know, I pull a lot of electricity from the wall outlet all the time.

Fiamonder

ROFL smd XD

Nice, keeping your comp on for 3 days.

First try at making a sig, It's decent.

sonicmaddave

XD as long as all the components keep cool, it should run for a very long time. I managed to have it on for 2 weeks straight one time until a power cut happened in my street. :3

Fiamonder

I would never do that. NEVER XD

First try at making a sig, It's decent.

I'm going to leave my PC on for as long as possible as of right now 5 days, 1 hour and 52 minutes it has been running for non stop. Someone told me if I leave my computer on for more than 12 hours it will crash. ::)

Tanassy

that guy obviously has an unstable computer XD

sonicmaddave

His overheats a lot funnily enough he told me I should never leave my PC on overnight as it will catch fire. XD

Tanassy

Well you all know my computer is awesome. Time to show what I use for when I print. :P

I have my parents Brother multifunction shared on their computer so I can print when needed from my own computer.

And this is it. ;) Sharing a printer over a network is very easy to do. :P

Brand new fan installed, for extra cooling, on the 80mm grille on the side of the case which used to have an air duct.

Vantech Stealth fan. The reason it's called Stealth and has a Stealth bomber pic is because it is meant to be quiet, ie you don't know it's there.

Fan installed in the side of the computer. You can see through the bottom vents too.

A nice personal touch is to install a fan grille on the other side.

Although it didn't look it, it was spinning here. :D
