I will divide the characters into species:

Hedgehog Species:

Shadow
Silver
Amy
Scourge

Fox Species:
Tails

Echidna Species:
Knuckles
Tikal
Pachamac
Shade
Ix

Cat Species:
Honey
Big
Blaze

Other Species:
Cream
Charmy
Espio
Vector
Bark
Rouge
Jet
Storm
Wave
Marine
Cosmo
Chip
Bean

(Human isn't an animal, if you wanna keep that part, say "What species (Except human)" ;))

Cat, since...
1. I have 6 of em'
2. You wouldn't really be able to PICK if it was an accident...
3. My best guess would be that it would mutate me on feelings or some junk like that. And since I love cats... you do the math ;)
