Maria. And Shadow and Maria aren't related! Professor Gerald said and I quote "If you wish,release and awaken it,to the world if you wish to fill the world with destruction..." When he said that in SA2/SA2B,he was basically saying that he only made Shadow as a weapon and not a relative to him and Maria.

yeah,Shadow wasn't born with Maria,he was just made to make destruction.But i always think Shadow has a little nice side in him :)
