Title: Things in games you're tired of seeing.
Post by: Kirby on July 28, 2010, 04:14:53 AM
Personally, I hate Linear games. Games like Sonic Unleashed the focus on Speed and not Run around, Collect, enjoy.  I favor games that allow you to explore freely. Like Spider-Man 2, Crash Twinsanity, and Crash Tag Team Racing. It's always the same thing, Boost forward, YOU WIN! Dash left, YOU WIN! Games with lots of objectives, I also hate. Once in a game, an Objective was to walk to a spot that was about 4 inches away.
I mean. Games that let you look deeply in places to find Items and let you run around with no Gimmicks, those type of games would be good.

And the repetition of enemies doing the same thing. Back and forward, Back and forward. Gosh Christ.

It's interesting, I liked Sonic Adventure/Sonic Adventure DX for it's hub worlds and exploring for like the Wind/Ice rocks, stage entrances, and characters. Yet, that's the one thing that made me pull my hair out because sometimes Tikal would have to give me hints because I was lost sometimes on where to go but the exploring did make it memorable.

I am tired of long drawn out death scenes in games :/ I mean, I just want to play the game I don't really care if some sucky character I never really used is dying. Sure they can grieve a bit but I don't wanna be stuck watching them die for a long period of time. Especially since they go on about how they have done something wrong and them dieing is to repent that wrong or how they should be avenged etc etc. You get the picture. (eternal sonatas death scene with claves especially, even though you get to revive her later, and she still sucks)

Also games that have bosses with one hit moves where its basically luck on whether or not you manage to avoid it, because its always the hard bosses that take a long time to die that have them >:/ and they always let you near kill them before bombarding you with them @.@ If they are gonna put my people out of their misery at least do it at the start of the level so I havn't wasted half of my life x3

I hate when some hero is trying to beat the final boss and they're failing at it and all of a sudden the hero's enemy sides with the hero and starts with the crappy inspirational/cheesy music and continues to say "Don't give up [blah blah blah]!"

Games that repeat the same major bosses. Like major 3-D Mario games they always repeat Bowser battles 3 times or Eternal Sonata they repeat all the major bosses.

Long, unskippable cut-scenes, with saves right before them.
Title: Re: Things in games you're tired of seeing.
Post by: Skyle369 on July 30, 2010, 08:50:32 PM
A boss battle that has a next boss battle next to it and sometimes a third one or a 2/3 part boss battle... WITHOUT REGAINING YOUR LIFE AND OTHER STUFF ON THE NEXT BATTLE and sometimes not allowing you to save so when you die on the third one, you freaking start at the first part of the boss battle again. >.<

Like at the end of most mario & Luigi games... I hate that too.

Games that make you go out of your way on a side quest or something similar for something you never get to use anyway.

Like the Biggon's Sword that breaks after three damn swings or the divas in the WWE games (yes I've played them. :P).

Games that let you access a certain location for one mission but don't let you return/re-enter those places.
(Mainly seen in the Grand Theft Auto series)

The "Final Boss" is ALWAYS 3 consecutive fights, instead of just 1 epic fight
Supporting female characters
monologues
games that have its unique gameplay in the first game, then bring the EXACT same thing in the sequel and beyond -_-
And these games double annoy me when the story is also unchanging

Games with shitty save features. (Dead Rising games. C'mon! Get with the autosaves people!)
Megaman games without old school badguys. (Such as Airman, Cutman, etc.)
And free roaming done wrong. (No More Heroes. Love the game, but the motorcycle blows.)

One thing that has ever really annoyed me is beating the final boss after one huge epic game of awesomeness (OoT) and not being able to save... you know, I'd like to explore the world as it is without Ganondorf's evil contaminating it.

I hate it when a game becomes too popular and then people that have never even heard of the first game in the series start praising it. (i.e. Call of Duty). Ask any of your friends if they have even HEARD of CoD before CoD4(if they say CoD 3, i wouldnt count it since it came out on the current systems)

i hate it when the games storyline branch off from the first one (i.e Final Fantasy, Armored Core 3)
i hate it when sports soundtracks promote a song that EVERYONE constantly sings(i.e Madden NFL 06: IMA BEAST! Yeah... it was that game... also Dance Dance)
i hate it when they just dont update the roster for the sports games(although new draft picks can be a primary reason to have to make a new game
i hate it when completely different games use songs from another game source(i.e Shadow The Hedgehog Death Ruins and Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3)
i hate over-hyped iPhone games (most of them are flash games anyways...  ::) )

I wish a game combined all three. That'd be pretty reakin' sexy. *shot*

But in all honesty White Night Chronicles did the first two and even had that cliche outside girl. I cringed so hard playing I had to stop. Especially this scene:

I hate puzzles in non-puzzle games, besides possibly platform, with exceptions. I can for example deal with metroid or mario puzzles but puzzles in games like.. lost in blue, sonic games, and other fast paced or survival games don't belong. Especially when it's a flow-breaking concept (Spyro, anyone?)
