Ok so last night, I was playing City of Heroes with my roleplaying group. And one of the characters got captured by their demonic mother or something like that, ok?
So CoH has the ability to let YOU make missions. So they made a mission to rescue the character and then the next was to kill her mom. Ok so we blow through the first mission in like, 3 seconds. And I could feel some friction when I started asking why they made the *captive right at the front of the entrance.
*Captive:
An NPC you need to rescue from enemies.
The leader of the team, group, and mission, was like, "Well I just set it to Random."
Ok, A. You NEVER put a captive that, when you free them, ends the mission on RANDOM, you either do "Back" of the map, or "Middle"
Ok we breeze through that mission and then get out, I try to impliment a little roleplaying in between, trying to move the story of my character along. We're sitting there for at LEAST a half hour, waiting for WHO knows what.
Then finally we start the mission... guess what... The mission difficulty was set to the HIGHEST IT COULD. So we're fighting Purple names*, and I can't hit them for beans, which is important, since when I heal, I have to be targeting the enemy (It's weird how it works, but whatever), and 'attack' the enemy. So that means one less person who is almost totally centered around healing, can't heal.
*Purple names:
An enemy who's name is purple, meaning they're like, 4 or 5 levels above you, and really hard to kill.
So I'm saying, "This is way too hard, I can't hit anything." and they're like, "We've been let off too easy, we need a challenge."
...A CHALLENGE?! Ok sure, hard is ok. I can handle hard, as long as I can HIT something! I mean seriously, ok yeah this is suppose to be an important enemy, I can respect the character's mom being hard, but seriously? The MAX difficulty? I mean at LEAST a little lower, so I can actually heal my guys!
Ok so we die like, 10 times, and then finally get a strategy working for us. I mention again how hard it is, and I said I came on to roleplay, not sit in a mission for an hour and a half (Which it literally was an hour and a half)
And then I get seriously bashed, someone saying, "Stop whining and leave if you want." I was severely offended by this, because I wasn't all, "UUUUUGHHHH THIISS IISSS HAAAAAAAARRRRRDDD!111!11!!" I said, "Ok I'm thinking of leaving, because I came on to roleplay, not sit here fighting extremely hard enemies for an hour," (Not exactly, it was that more or less)
Then I got a message from the leader saying, "You're negativity is REALLY irritating some of us, stop it now, -final warning-"
-final warning-?! WHAT?! I didn't even get a warning in the first place!! How RUDE is that?! And lemme tell ya, these AREN'T kids younger than me, these are ADULTS, they're OVER 30 years old, most of them anyway! I sent a message back saying,
"Wow, sheesh. Didn't know opinions were crimes these days, sorry."
So it was pretty silent from me for the rest of the time. We had like, 6 out of 8 people on the team, meaning we were short a few. So we kill all the purple named minions, and then get to fighting the AV*. We had gotten their attention before, so we had been struggling, and the minions were surrounding it, so we had a point where we had some of us focused on the AV, others fighting minions.
*AV - Arch Villain:
Hardest type of enemy in the game.
And at one point in there, we got a 7th member, and they COMPLETELY agreed and understood what I was talking about. They were like,
"...Um yeah I cant hit anything"
So guess what, we ALL focused on fighting the AV, and guess what? We barely HURT them! AT ALL. We got like, a LITTLE bit of their health bar down, and then they'd heal/regenerate it.
Guess what? After everyone/almost everyone dying once again, we exited... and guess what? THE LEADER SAID THE MISSION WAS TOO HARD. No mention of me, no mention of how I was right, no mention at all. So we gave up the mission. It was late, and we were tired.
So I sit there, not talking, I was just sitting there, waiting for there be a mention of me being right.
Nope, none.
So I'm sitting there, and I'm angry at what was said before. I sat there and pushed myself to be the 'bigger man', and say sorry. I was waiting patiently for them to apologize, but I knew nothing would continue right if I just sat there like a dead fish, waiting. So I did it, I sent them a private message saying, "I'm sorry for being negative."... I waited... I waited... I waited... nothing. No, "It's ok, I was being rude," or "It's fine. I shouldn't have been so hard on you. You were right about it being too hard." Nothing at all, no reply.
So I said it out loud... only one person responded, the person who agreed with me (Half the team was gone, it was me, the person who agreed with me, the leader, and the guy who said I was whining), they were like,
"Yeah it's ok, it was pretty hard."
Thats what I was expecting from the leader... and remember,
I'M A CRUDDY 13 YEAR OLD, THIS PERSON HAS KIDS, THESE PEOPLE HAVE KIDS, AND THEY'RE NOT MATURE ENOUGH TO ACCEPT MY APOLOGY?!!?I said to them, "Heading off to bed, night everyone.", and I FINALLY got a response from the leader, just saying,
"night."
...That's it. That was my night last night. I had to go to bed, repeating to myself,
"You're the bigger man, Alex. You apologized first, you did it even though you really didn't want to..." over and over again.
I'm in a group of mostly 20+ year olds, and guess what, I, right now, feel like I'm x10 more mature then they are. If they're too childish to admit that I was right, or to accept my apology, then I dont think they really had a right to treat me like that.
[/End rant]
And PLEASE, no one just say
QuoteWut?
Or something like that. You're dealing with a raging 13-year-old. It's not a smart move.
