I've been working all this time on Sonic Infinite, I had coders, writers, and musicians ready to create the create the greatest fangame of all time. Yesterday I realized that if I was going to put so much time and effort into a game, why a fangame of all things?
With the resources available to me, I might as well start my own original game I've been holding off on for so long...
I know from experience people are more willing to work on something like a fan game than anything original. Why help you when they could work on their own stories? Fan games usually revolve around a common interest that multiple people share. Original ideas aren't as lucky.
Jkid has a good point, as usual.

jkid always wins in the end.
If you can convince them to go along with it, go for your original game!
Fangames can be a test thing, to see if you really have it to make a game.
