My Wii recently stopped reading discs...Three days ago, actually. I was playing The Sims 3 (terrible port, by the way) when the disc stopped reading on me. Since the game was from Gamefly I thought nothing of it and sent it back, ordering Last Story in it's place. The next day (or a few days later, I can't remember) I got back into Brawl hacking. I downloaded Riivolution so that I could replace sound effects...Brawl failed to load, however, Brawl always gave me problems so, once again, I thought nothing of it and assumed the problem would fix itself over time.
Today Kirby's Return to Dreamland arrived in the mail. I took out Brawl, which I had left in overnight, and put it in. I ended up getting an error with a black screen telling me that the game could not be read and that I had to reboot the system. I figured the disc was dirty and cleaned it off. Same error. To check if something was wrong I tried another game that I owned, TVC. Same error. Pokemon Battle Revolution, which I had been playing before Sims 3. Same error. Obviously by this point I began to worry that the problem was my Wii. I dug through the internet looking for anything to help me. I generally found two answers:
A). Clean the lens using a Nintendo Wii lens cleaner.
B). Send the system to Nintendo for fixing.
The second option was clearly out because my Wii is hacked so I went with the first. I couldn't find a Nintendo lens cleaner so I bought a third party "universal" lens cleaner. Ecstatic that I could play my games again I returned home...the lens cleaner didn't make a fucks worth of difference and to top it off to even get it in the first place mom let me possibly overdraw her credit card.
So I'm left with a few options:
A). Risk sending my Wii to Nintendo.
B). Wait for the Wii U and lose my save files.
C). Pirate all my games and my rented games using the ISO Loader.
D). Deal with it.
I am just so bent out of shape. I fucking loved hacking Brawl. This thing has been working fine since like...2007 and it suddenly decided to fuck me for no reason.
Please, anyone. Tell me there is still something I can do? Anything?
USB Loading, maybe?

I already considered that, but thank you.
Buying a new Wii will screw you.
People will hack the Wii U so your save files will be transferred from Wii to Wii U. (not confirmed, just might be a possibility)
USB Loading is still the best answer since you already hacked your Wii.
That, or you could deal with it.

Actually it's been confirmed that files will be transferable from the Wii to the Wii U.
I had this same problem with my Wii, except I was able to send it to Nintendo because it wasn't hacked. I also tried a lens cleaner and it didn't do shit. I think your best bet is to wait for the Wii U and get the data transferred if it's possible.

I'm actually going to see if I can find a console repair shop around here that will fix it. I know I usually see a few.
EA working it's magic
Besides, shouldn't this be in "Help"?
Were you getting the same error that you got after hacking your Wii before you hacked your Wii?

I didn't get this error untill three years
after hacking my Wii, and people who haven't hacked seem to have the same problem.

Did you do anything weird with your Wii shortly prior to this happening? (i.e. screwing around with homebrew)

Not that I can recall. The last thing I did before Sims 3 was play Pokemon Battle Revolution which I think was a month or two prior.

Well if your Wii still turns on you could try updating it.
If that doesn't work try opening the Wii up and cleaning it.

I was thinking of doing the later but I didn't want to ruin it. Updating is know to brick hacked Wiis, plus, I don't think there is even a new update out.

Updating doesn't brick hacked Wiis, it just removes the homebrew, which you can easily put back on.
And if the last time you updated was 3 years ago, then you may not have downloaded the latest update. The last update was on September 7, 2010.

It's possible that it can. I've done it fine with Homebrew before, but I'd still rather not take the risk.
I'm on firmware 4.3 which I'm 100% certain is the latest version.

According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_system_software#Wii_System_Update_releases) there were two 4.3 updates, though they weren't released too far apart. Might as well try.
If worst comes to worst and your Wii can't read any disks, you could always just pirate your games from here on out and play them through an external hard drive.

We're planning on taking it to a console repair shop (yes, they exist). If the guys there can't fix it then, as you said, I'm going to ha ve to use ISOs.
What's this about playing ISOs on the Wii?

Hack your Wii, get an external hard drive, put games on it, plug it into your Wii, play without discs.

Can't be a flash drive?
I've explained to mom what I think the problem is. I've explained the USB Loader to her. I've tried to find places that will repair consoles.
She's convinced that just owning and installing Homebrew is pirating (even though I'm not even using it for ISOs) and is convinced that the only solution is to buy me another Wii that can actually read disks.
So now I'm going to have two Wiis hooked up at most times. At least they can share cords...?
What I don't understand is where her logic comes from. My biggest SD card is 4GB which is two short of being able to fit Brawl. She's says that she's going to let me keep my old Wii for hacking but what does she expect me to hack if I can't play my games? I told her to just buy me an SD card and save us $70 but she isn't listening.
...Heh...first world problems, eh?
