Tifa's actually the most useless character out of all 9.
Cloud's sort of balanced and if you know how, he can be easily leveled up to 255 in all stats.
Barret's a bit more on the offensive side, I think...
Red's basically offense and magic.
Cid's offense.
Yuffie's...Something.
Vincent's basically a bugfest (Death Penalty bug = Kill ANYTHING with 1 hit.)
Cait Sith/CatShit's pretty useful against Ruby Weapon, just abuse his Limit Break a little, and also abuse the hell out of CoinToss.
Aeris is basically a healer with the most OP Limit Breaks in the game.
And then there's Tifa...
How do I say this...Useless as shit, has nothing that the other characters don't, Cid basically replaces her, even Cat Shit is of more use than her, etc.
But well, this is what my friend ended up telling me after I asked about what characters are the best...And the guy has seriously spent more than 1000 hours on that game.

Well good for him. I dunno how he went about training
his Tifa, but
my Tifa ended up with the second highest Attack(first being Cloud of course) and highest defense.
She's also the only character I've found to have the perfect mix of being a Monk and a White mage on the account that she ends up having a f*ckton of health, if I dared to give the same materia setup to anyone else who wasn't Cloud, their health becomes pitiful.
Another reason I keep her is because of her limit break, cause since I'm good at the slot machines minigame, I get "Yeah!" all the time, and it becomes the most damaging thing since Knights of Pound.
