I used to say Meep all of the time, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS A REAL WORD! >_<

the most versatile word? Perhaps.
Never thought of it as a greeting though, at least not a polite one. People might think you're swearing at them. Either that or they'll think you're crazy. Still...
