Title: Video Game Adaptations
Post by: Hakudamashi on Nov 22, 2013 06:21 PM
This is a topic to discuss our experiences with video game adaptations, comics, manga, anime, movies, action figures... legos...
What are some of your favourites? Least favourites? Do you prefer the adaptation to the source material? Does it complement the source material? Or just sucks?

At this point in time, the afaptations I've been following are:
Sonic the Hedgehog-The cartoon with the freedom fighters,
Blazblue Alter Memory - The anime which as of this time has really dissapointed me
Pokemon Adventures The manga that has really knocked my socks off every chapter.

Adaptations I've seen to completion
Pokemon the Origin -The anime of just the kanto region, which I'm saddened that the girl trainer didn't take Bulbasaur...
Metroid - The manga that has very vulgar, but still badass Samus Aran.
Sonic X - The anime that has the best iteration of Amy Rose IMO.
Kirby Right Back At Ya - The anime that made Metaknight Mexican... ok?
Persona 4 - The anime that smartly doesn't reveal the true ending.

Adaptations I'm interested in seeing
Super Mario Bros.- The comic that has Princess Peach ruling the Mushroom Kingdom with an iron fist... and bombs.
Star Fox - The comic... I just know it exists =U
Killer Instinct - ^

I'm having a hard time deciding if I should include Visual Novels into this...

Wasn't the last episode where Yu leaves during cherry blossom season after they defeated Adachi?

No, there is an episode after that shows the alternative where he fights Izanami. It's rather badass, actually.

I see

I'm also following the Sonic the Hedgehog Archie comic, that recently got a reboot, that I'm quite iffy about...

Wait, it got a reboot after all this time...? Why? Just to follow Marvel and DC?

I guess
It pisses me off cause the previous arc had soo much going on. Sally being robotisiced, Antione being in a coma, Bunnie going AWOL, The Echidnas getting genocided, Thrash talking about the Tazmanian Devils., and Cream, Rotor and some others were gonna take on the Tails Doll's ultimate form or something.
I was excited to see how how Sonic and Co. were gonna deal with all this misfortune and the sacrifices they'd have to make to make everything right again, and was hoping for some epic climactic fight at Eggman's base...

BUT NOPE, REBOOT, EVERYTHING'S FINE AGAIN

And I'm not liking some of their redesigns either...

This explained a bit to me. Apparently some guy named Ken Penders filed a lawsuit to regain the characters he created, which is where this reboot comes from.

Soo, this reboot is a way for him to write his characters back in?

What? No. It's a way to take them out without killing them all off. Characters like Julie-Su now belong to Ken so they are officially gone for good. He's even using them for other things now, apparently...like fan fiction.

So thanks to the Nintendo Eshop, I've been watching the Pokemon Black and White anime, and I gotta say, It's really growing on me =U.

Ho-Ly-Shit
I never liked Skyla, she was lame and bland, fat with reverse Popeye arms and was pathetically easy.

But the anime, my god, she's such a f*cking unlikeable b*tch, I hate her, even when she's losing.
I hope I never see her again @_@

XD. It gets better from there on. The west has just recently finished its Black and White saga so you have a while before you catch up. But i can tell you that you can skip a lot of the And Beyond episodes. Just a bunch of cameos (like Clair and Ash's Charizard)

Does he keep the Charizard this time?

Please tell me Skyla never shows up again...

Hmm... Interesting question. I'd have to say the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comics. The company just did a great job of expanding on the Sonic universe, and this idea even got me [re]interested in collecting them.

So I finished BlazBlue Alter Memory... That was the most disappointing video game related thing I've experienced since Lost World 3DS...

Post Merge: January 02, 2014, 08:41:59 AM

Just finished the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon with the Archie characters, or SatAM as it were.
I really liked it, like, a lot, every kid totally needs to watch that show, even though it ends on a dumb cliffhanger... a cliffhanger I can easily ignore, so whatever.

I also find it's method of story telling interesting, nothing was explained to us, all the information about the world and their situation was told through natural conversation between the characters as if we should already know this, and then we connect the dots ourselves =U

Just Finished Devil Survivor 2. It's a really good show, it's like Attack on Titan but awesome instead of just "ok".
Made me interested in the Devil Survivor games, tho I must ask why this one got an anime over the 1st one =U.

But I just ask why this anime is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking dark >=U. The lighting is terrible, everything is too dark and there are too many shadows, I can't see a goddamn thing >_<

The Devil May Cry anime is almost as dissapointing as the Blazblue one, like, holy shit.

First of all, adding in unlikeable and unnecessary characters that are here to stay...
And for an adaptation of an action game, there sure is a whole lotta nothing going on... Like most of the fighting whenever there is a fight happens off screen, and when it IS on screen they're like, super short and lame. They're more focused on how much blood they can fill a room with than the actual battles.

Ugh.

Pokemon Season 16 Episode 1, or as I'd like to call it, Jkid's favourite and most hated episode ever.
Cause not only is it full of egotistical self righteous pretentious bitches who think they're the best thing since sex which are just exactly his company, but it's also the episode where that stupid ass Liligant get's thrown into a pile shit like the stupid ugly ass piece of trash that it is.
Also cross dressing.

Oh, that episode. I watched it to study Lilligants movements before I attempted to animate her for Pokebrawl.
That was episode one of something?
Besides, IIRC Lilligant won her battle so piss off.

It got kicked in the head into mud by Emolga
Then used mud to win against Pansage
Lilligant is now Mud
And I will continue to refer to it as such.

She needs a dip in the mud or no one would be able to touch her 'cause she's so hot.

The gang got back together, woohoo, hugs and kisses all around.
Then the planet exploded...

Looks like the next story arc is gonna take place IN SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Cause they conveniently finished their "spaceship" just in time for planet combustion...
But by the looks of the cover of the next issue(they give a little preview at the end of each issue), it looks like the planet isn't gonna blow immediately, so they're gonna race across the planet to save as many people as they can, while Eggman just GTFOs.
