Title: Sonic Zone Game Night 2014
Post by: Elija2 on June 05, 2014, 03:10:37 PM
So I'm trying to set up a date and time when we can all play some multiplayer games together as a loving community. Currently I'm just trying to form a list of online multiplayer games that people own, so if you're interested then tell us what games you have and what platform you own them on.

Suggested Games
Mario Kart Wii CTGP (Wii) - Elija2, jkid, Hakudamashi
Mario Kart 7 (3DS) - Elija2, jkid, SmashFinale, Bom
Sonic Racing Transformed (PC) - Elija2, Hakudamashi, Kyo, NiGHTS, Tana
Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate (PS3) - Hakudamashi, Kyo, NiGHTS
Hawken (PC) - Hakudamashi, Kyo, Elija2
Resident Evil: Revelations (3DS) - Elija2, Kyo
Binary Domain (PC) - Elija2, Kyo
Left 4 Dead 2 (PC) - Elija2, Kyo, Hakudamashi, Tana
Red Orchestra 2 (PC) - Elija2, Kyo
Kid Icarus: Uprising (3DS) - Elija2, Hakudamashi, SmashFinale, Bom
Team Fortress 2 (PC) - Elija2, Ioshyriku
Tekken Revolution (PS3) - Hakudamashi, NiGHTS
Steel Diver: Sub Wars (3DS) - Elija2
Persona 4: Arena (PS3) - Kona-Chan, Hakudamashi
Code of Princess (3DS) - SmashFinale, Hakudamashi
Pokemon XY (3DS) - NiGHTS, Elija2
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (PS3) - NiGHTS
Skullgirls (PS3) - NiGHTS
Skullgirls (PC) - NiGHTS
Guilty Gear Isuka (PC) - NiGHTS
BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma (PS3) - NiGHTS
League of Legends (PC) - NiGHTS
Pokemon TGC (PC) - Hakudamashi
Saints Row: The Third (PC) - Elija2, Kyo
Burnout Paradise (PC) - Elija2, Tana
Street Fighter x Tekken (PS3/Vita) - Bom
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (PS3/Vita) - Bom

If anyone has any more suggestions (preferably not another karting game) then let me know. We'll hopefully be playing multiple games in one night so even if you don't own every game on the list you should still be able to play something with us.

I know not many people still post on the forums, but if we get some of the chatbox regulars to join in then we would still have a decent number of people playing. I'd rather it not just be two people playing against each other because that's hardly a community game night.

Well, there's always those F2P games like DoA5 Ultimate on PS3, or Hawken on PC.

And I also has CTGP.

I got Transformed on PC, DoA5U on PS3 and Hawken on PeeCee.
So, there's that.

I added those games to the OP. I've never played Hawken before but I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Would any of you guys be willing to play Team Fortress 2? That's another F2P game.

And okay, I know this is a weird suggestion, but what about Steel Diver: Sub Wars for 3DS? It's technically a F2P game (although they recently added a restriction to free players that forces them to pay 2 Play Coins for every online match) so everyone with a 3DS could play it. Just throwing it out there.

But I don't want to restrict this to F2P games so I guess I'll make a list of every other multiplayer game I have in the off-chance that someone else has one of them:

3DS Games
Luigi's Mansion 2
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Resident Evil: Revelations

PC Games
Binary Domain
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
Left 4 Dead 2
Monaco
Red Orchestra 2
Renegade Ops

I has Kid Icarus Uprising(which sad sack of shit doesn't?) and Left 4 Dead 2

I'll be willing to try Steel Diver if everyone's willing to put up with Tekken Revolution.

I updated the list with more games.

Only four people have expressed interest in this so far which is kind of disappointing. It would be nice if we had Jonathan's support to make this something bigger.

Anyway, maybe now we should start trying to settle on a date(s). Is next weekend a good time for everyone? Maybe we could make this a weekly thing?

I'm still open to game suggestions though.

We're literally the only ones still using the forum, with the occasional Ninja.

Making it weekly is totally possible, but we'd probably only be able to play the most popular games like Sonic Racing Transformed. I'd rather it not just be one game though. Maybe one week we can play one game and then the next week a different game. It's just that right now we have so few people interested that it kind of defeats the point of setting anything up.

Again, what days would you guys be able to play? I'm thinking that Friday or Saturday would be the best day for everyone.

If this thing will still be available in July, I'd also like to join, and from what I see in the list TF2 is the only game here I could play.
I wonder if you guys would be interested in "Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy", since I think it's pretty fun, although I always had trouble playing it with people I know...

We'll hopefully be doing this weekly and if not I'll try to start another game night in July.

Hawken, Tekken Revolution, and Steel Diver: Sub Wars are all free-to-play so you'd be able to play them too if you have their respective consoles (Hawken is for PC).

So the same time zone as me.

Kyo lives in Switzerland which is UTC+1, so the time zones we have are UTC -6, -5, and +1. It might be tricky accommodating Kyo since his time zone is so off from ours. We'll probably have to play earlier in the day just so Kyo can play with us at night. Thanks a lot, Kyo!

Okay, so I have a feeling that cramming multiple games into one night would be difficult so I think it would be better if we played one or two games each day. Since MKWii, MK7, SASRT, Hawken, L4D2, and KI:U are the games with the most people it will be one of those. Since I don't think we should play two kart racers in one night, we'll split them up into two groups and pick one game from each group. Those that want to play, choose one game from each list below that you'd like to play the most. We'll play the games from each list with the most votes.

Kart Racers

Shooters

I vote for Sonic Racing Transformed and Kid Icarus.

You're gonna have to be more specific on which Street Fighter game you have since there are a million of them.

Hey Kyo, since your time zone is so much different from the rest of ours you should tell us what times you'd be available to play so we can accommodate you.

Ok, we're gonna get this going this Saturday for sure.

Like, we can have all the doods who have similar games play each other so that everyone plays with each other in something
Y'know, all the Kid Icarus Uprising folks play that, alongside the S&ASRT people playing that.
And then end the night (or when the party poopers need to leave) with a game that everyone has and have one big full lobby funfest, which would most likely end up being one of these free games.

One way is watching Pokemon TV, one episode gives you a bunch. And you also get them by doing the Trainer Challenge.

My Brawl also has freezing problems so if we were to play that it would have to be something like Project M.

Also, I'd like to suggest THUG PRO (http://phun.freeforums.org/thug2-3-click-installer-2-0-t5156.html) which is a mod for Tony Hawk's Underground 2 that allows people to play online. There is a standalone version you can download that only includes the online mod so you don't have to pirate buy the full game to play it.

Anyway, the list in the OP is kinda big so we should try to trim it down to games that we definitely want to play. I'm willing to give up on Steel Diver (*sniff* *tear*), Binary Domain, Red Orchestra 2, RE: Revelaitons, and Pokemon XY.

I'm having a hard time deciding between buying Resident Evil 6 or Borderlands 2 GOTY. This is the hardest decision I've ever had to make.
Are you fucking serious mate?

Yes.

Well, the second sentence wasn't that serious.

Really? I'm not buying it for a horror game with a good story, I'm buying it for a fun action game and it looks to be that.

If you're also into monotony and frustration, then sure.

I bought it recently on PS3...

Honestly, I'm still at first campaign (story mode is like 30 hours) and there's three more.
Leon's campaign has been fine as of now, a fairly competent shooter. Although I've heard that the other compaigns - especially Chris' are bad. But i dunno.

Borderlands 2... same thing. Very long. And a huge mixed bag.

Get neither? lol

Looks like more than just a fairly competent shooter to me.

Besides, the deal on Borderlands 2 already passed.

PC Gaming Master Race almost always gets 60 frames per second.

Anyway, I bought RE6. Can't wait to play it when it finishes downloading in 100 hours!

Unless it's locked at 30fps, which is a thing, and I hate it.

I'd love to but I'm stuck in Canada with shitty download speeds and bandwidth caps.

Anyway, you said you wanted to do this tomorrow so we should pick what games we're gonna play. I don't think we should play MKWii or Brawl because they require mods and I don't want people to get held up trying to get them to work. We're definitely gonna play SASRT because almost all of us have it. If you're able to set up a game of DoA5U then you should definitely do that too. Left 4 Dead 2, Mario Kart 7, and Kid Icarus: Uprising are also games we would likely play. I don't think we should bother playing anything else because too few people own them. Is everyone alright with that or do you have any other suggestions?

Also we should all add each other on Steam/3DS/PSN/etc. before we start playing. If your info isn't in the Master List (http://soniczone.net/forum/index.php?topic=19078.0), please post it. My Steam ID is scuzzyneighbour (http://steamcommunity.com/id/scuzzyneighbour) (jkid please edit that into the Master List).

I'm down with that, tho I wish you people would give the Pokemon TCG a shot.

All that matters now is time.
I'll be up from 7:00am, so I'll be here.

We could always play it another time. I still want to do this weekly/biweekly/once in a blue moon.

I'd schedule this better but I'm too lazy so everyone should just post in this thread when they're available to play a game.

Hakudamashi

Thanks, everyone! We may or may not be playing something again tomorrow so the few of you that missed out will still have another chance to play with us.

Just thought I'd mention I have Mario Kart 7 (Yes, 7) now, since I can use my brother's 3DS.

I won't be putting it in the Master list since I won't have it forever but here ya go.
2406-5588-0752

Also i apologise for missing the weekend, I had personal fuckery to deal with.

Also I love how Kyo bought the game on his PS3 and then ran it smoothly on his 360.

That game's FOV and camera angles give me a headache.

I don't check the forum much though. SO Skype or steam communication is preferable to notify me of events.

Okay, I've got a new game that we could play. Rocket League. (http://www.psyonix.com/BC2/Invite/RocketLeagueSignup.php) It's currently in alpha but if you sign up on their site they'll send you a free Steam key so you can play it. The website does say that it's currently out of alpha keys but if you sign up for their mailing list they'll send you one eventually. If you manage to get one it looks like a pretty fun game. Basically this is like the sequel to Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars if any of you have ever played that.

Did so. I think it'd be fun for us all to play something as it's in its beginning stages so that it's more balanced than if playing something that's existed for a forever lol

Well Rocket League is pretty much soccer football but with rocket cars. It's pretty fun.

Also I may not be able to play any more online PC games for a while because I've identified a problem with my laptop's wireless adapter (that's why I was having problems with SASRT). So until I get that fixed I'll only be able to play 3DS games with you guys. So...everyone buy Mario Kart 7.
