Title: Do I Have the Right to be Upset?
Post by: Hakudamashi on June 20, 2014, 03:52:31 AM

Eyes on the Wii U for not having 3rd party support, while this thing isn't even getting 1st party support.

Yes, I got a Vita just for Gravity Rush
Yes, I played and enjoyed the beejesus out of it
No, I do not regret it

But this, is kind of disheartening.

Or maybe I'm just overreacting...

Well, at least you'll be getting Gravity Rush 2.

But I think you do have the right to be upset that Sony is essentially abandoning the Vita.

Well at least now I get why Final Fantasy Type-0, a PSP game, is getting ported to PS4 and Xbone, consoles, rather than the Vita, the PSP's successor.

So, what's it like owning the two least successful consoles in recent memory?

Well, the PSVita gave me Gravity Rush, a magnificent game with a glorious soundtrack and a cool character cast. It was a thrilling adventure I will forever cherish.
It also gave me Persona 4 Golden, and more Persona is always awesome.
And all my PSP games that I owned are compatible with it, so I could give my old PSP to a friend of mine, and she's very content with it.
And PS+ has given me some Vita games I never would've tried and made fond memories with that.

The Wii U gave me Sonic Lost World, which I still love despite all the shit people give it, Nintendoland is still a fun time whenever I have buddies over, Mario 3D World has been a blast, and the console has made me realise how much I'd appreciate a tablet controller in my video games.

So to answer "what's it like", I respond with, it was an enjoyable time, and I don't regret it.

Sony are being cowards. There are simple things that would bring this thing back from the dead. Killing the PSP's production should have happened a long time ago instead of recently, Japan kept the PSP relevant and the Vita languished. The memory cards need to go away, they're incredibly expensive and exist for no reason. I'm pretty sure the 4G models can only be used with AT&T which is abysmal. They don't need first party software, Microsoft's never done a lot of that for their systems and they've done fine. They also need to cut the price.

I actually forgot that the memory cards are still restrictive and overpriced.

Yeah, the memory cards really turned me off of the Vita. I remember there was a huge amount of hype for the Vita before it came out. When they announced the $250 price, people were pronouncing the 3DS dead right there.

I don't think keeping the PSP around hurt the Vita though. Sony has always kept producing consoles long after their successor is already out.

I feel ya mang. I got a vita originally for Persona 4 Golden, and for the PSP compatibility games (Still hoping for Birth By Sleep or Crisis Core on PSN). I've always thought the memory cards were really overpriced tbh. During Sony's e3 I was like hoping they would make big announcements when it came to video games, but I was really disappointed. I actually have more fun with my vita than with my 3DS tbh, even though it's not very popular. I was hoping Sony would atleast make an attempt to save it from it's death, but there really weren't any big announcements for it. The console itself really has ALOT of potential, especially considering more of the things it has to offer over the 3DS. and btw with the Type-0 thing, I saw it was listed for Vita aswell and I like got so excited that MAYBE square could save it, but nooo it was just a mistake. I'm really upset with Sony too. I'm actually playing Gravity Rush right now and I'm enjoying it ALOT. Sony should stop trying to make it like an add-on and try harder to make it it's own console.

blegh soz for the rambling

Sony makes the exact same mistakes Nintendo did with the 3DS and takes it a step further with non-traditional memory cards of insane pricing. They also tried to make games that could just easily be played on a PS3/4 for the system when the games on it are usually much more beneficial to play on consoles instead of handhelds anyways. And what the hell was the point of adding a 4G model anyways?! Only works with one ISP and honestly the convenience is very questionable with all these free wifi hotspots all over the place. And finally as much as everyone hates hearing about this game series I'm going to say it. If CoD couldn't save this handheld from irrelevancy what in frozen hell can?!?! Sony signed a deal for a less than half-assed, drunk vomit of an abortion of a game called Declassified and look what it cost them! The Vita has no real system sellers, no real killer apps, and Sony has shown little, if any, care for this system!
How cowardly can they be? But oh, Playstation totally dominating the market, right?

I also do enjoy using my Vita more than my 3DS for many reasons *coughrightanalogstickcough*

Buy a Clrcle Pad.
There. You literally have no reason to have a Vita now. Besides Gravity Rush.

Playstation Now can possibly revive it, but only revive it with low HP (soz for nerdy metaphor), I mean like it can have a chance to revive it, but not by much, bc I would love to play FFXIII at starbucks or while taking a dump tbh

The Circle pad is big and bulky and stupid looking and I'm not putting that thing in my pockets.

When it starts earning those he might. But at this point in time it's a pointless handheld.

>Pointless
Doesn't it have the same point of the 3DS?? The point is to have fun with a portable console, no??
TBH you're probs only saying that bc you haven't personally experienced, one and there isn't a certain game that's provoking you to get one. Actually, everyone that I've talked to irl (Which sadly is literally 3 people vs the 3940u84 people that have a 3DS) that has a vita says that they have a lot of fun with it.

I actually experienced the Vita from a Japanese friend at school before it even released in America. He had a Japanese Vita. I have demoed it as much as i can whenever i go to a gamestop or Best Buy. I have played PSASBR and Gravity Rush on it.
AND I STILL FIND IT TO BE A POINTLESS HANDHELD WITH VERY LITTLE VALUE ATTACHED TO IT. Especially considering it's price and Sony's history on treatment for their dedicated handheld gaming devices. Sony will ignore it and it will be just a footnote in gaming history.

experiencing your own vita and playing a demo aren't the same thing tho smash is u ok
especially since alot of things are disabled during demos

One point about the Vita is personal preference. It seems as of late, the main selling point of the Vita is becoming JRPGs and Rhythm games. Hell, my main selling points of the Vita were P4:G, the Vita port of Virtue's Last Reward, Disgaea 4:Return, Project DIVA f, Danganronpa, etc. Also, I can agree with Bom on this. Before I actually got it, I didn't think much of it. But honestly, when I had my OWN, it was loads of fun; much more than I've had with the 3DS. And actually, I find it way more comfortable and I have things such as Skype, Crunchyroll, etc. Still, I mean it's a lot based on personal preference, but from my experiences with both the 3DS and Vita, I like the Vita more and I see so much potential in it. Thanks for reading my wall of text ~

It's literally the PSP all over again.
That quirky Japanese handheld for Japanese people and weeaboos.

But now that you mention it, has a non-Japanese group made a video game handheld?
And no, phones don't count.

The Atari Lynx

There was also the Gizmondo but I don't think anyone cares about that. And the N-Gage but that was also a phone :P
