In that case, what makes a hardcore console? Cause the Wii has it's fair share of mature/complex/hard games that can also  use the classic/gamecube controller...

Good Graphics, "Adult" Games, Small Amount of Casual Games/Shovelware, Normal Controls, No Gameplay-Gimmicks

I think the Dreamcast & original Xbox might be the pure definition of "hardcore" consoles.
Probably the PlayStation 1 as well.

Funny you should mention that, cause wasn't games at one point aimed towards children? Now it's like children aren't allowed to play games and it's a man's hobby...

And what's with the gimmick hate? A gimmick is to make gameplay not bore you minutes into the experience, y'know, something to keep things fresh. Now we treat gimmicks like they're the devil...
