What I don't remember well were important plot points, like Spyke's glass eye, Mai being a clone of some sorts, Jet's metal arm
Y'know, the important stuff.

I don't think they ever completely explain any of that. It stays in the present for the most part. You get a good chunk of Faye's backstory, but not much for anyone else.
