Otherwise know as where ALL of the anime memes/troupes came from.

I finally decided to give the series a watch today and...um... It's a very tame Nichijou...

Though I have grown fond of Sakaki and Kasuga <3

I'm watching the english dub btw.

Azumanga Daioh should be mandatory viewing.

Azumanga Daioh is an anime about Japanese schoolgirls doing (mostly) everyday things that is not dependent on moe and is genuinely funny without relying on video game/anime references and at various points features the characters in swimsuits without sexualizing them.

In other words, the antithesis of things like Lucky Star or K-On!. Not that those shows are bad, but only otaku are going to like them. Anyone on Earth could watch this show and enjoy it. Its manga was written by the same person that does Yotsuba&!, both of which are great reads but Azumanga Daioh's 4-koma style might put off people that don't read manga often.

This show's opposite would probably be Pani Poni Dash!, which embraces and parodies the things that Azumanga Daioh avoids.

Bandai Entertainment had licensed that and were going to release it here... then the Japanese side shut them down because they weren't profiable enough. Not because they weren't profitable, just because they weren't profitable enough.

Those greedy fucks denied us one of the greatest anime ever. Even though it ended beautifully, the thought that it could've continued tears me apart(especially since I can't buy DVDs or anything cause Jamaican customs...)

I just really love how both Azumanga and Nichicjou are both hilarious while being original, and making girls act like girls doing regular stuff.

Though, from what I've seen of Azumanga so far I'm personally preferring Nichijou cause by the end of it you actually get to know each and every major and minor character, and I especially love it's 2nd ending that just shows all of them walking about.

By the end of the anime you will and least know EVERY one of those seemingly random characters, which I really appreciate.

Well, I finished watching all 26 episodes... I um... I have mixed feels...

This anime didn't seem to age well, at least to me. From the constantly re-used animations, the seemingly unnecessary silences, and some scenes that just seem to drag on...
Most of the anime, especially in the delivery in some of the jokes feel like padding and some screen shots are just left hanging there for several seconds, or they just repeat an action they just did, sometimes to even tell the same joke twice...

I can say I only really enjoyed episodes 14-19, 23-26. At least those are the ones I remember enjoying...

But with that outta the way, I can definately see why this anime is held in high regard, and for me it's from their cast of characters, they're all great, I loved all of them, except Kimura.
