Nintendo just revealed that their last operating period (July to Sep.) they turned in an operating profit of 9.3 billion yen. In comparison, it was originally predicted to be a loss of 3.7 billion yen.

Nintendo says they're back on track for a 40 billion yen profit by the end of the financial year.

Not surprising. Firing all those temps in Europe probably helped along with a lot of other internal restructuring we don't know about. It's good for game companies to struggle, especially console makers. We get the best games when that happens. When Nintendo and Sega were head to head with each other, the SNES and Genesis both benefited. When the Dreamcast was against the wall we got a lot of great games even if they still bowed out.
