PS3's D-Pad gets filled with sweat during a period of gaming so playing with it isn't always reliable.

And as for why as for the D-Pad isn't a function for Smash games is hilariously simple.
Super Smash Bros. 64 is what it is today because Sakurai wanted to make use of two things that the SNES wasn't able to do:

4 Player Mode and Joystick controls. This is the probably the reason why Sakurai considered making Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS in the first place. And while Brawl did have the standard WiiMote as a playable option it was more likely a last minute choice to add in a joystick-less control method. That's why all previous and future installments don't let you use it for gamepads like Gamecube or N64.

But it isn't 1999 anymore.
Multiple control options should be a thing by now.

Not only that, but the circle pad is pretty ass as well.
AND the circle pad breaks for a lot of people.

Well, I guess, this will raise New 3DS sales because "my circle pads broke, might as well get a new one."

You clearly forget who we're talking. Nintendo doesnt even realize that the year 2000 came and went. They are always stuck in the 90s.

The "Beat Classic/All-Star/Smash Run/off with every character" challenges can go suck a turd.

I know and it torments my very soul.
It's not that hard. At least it's doable unlike certain challenges in Kirby Air Ride...
or Uprising.
