Get your Sony haterism outta here. it's because the whole internal structure of the PS4 is completely different from the PS3. It's the same reason the Xbox360 can't play Xbox games

Why?
Cause the hardware of the PS3 and PS2 were difficult as f*ck to develop for and nobody liked it, making things easier for Nintendo and Microsoft.

Funfact: Xbox360 is backwards compatible. At least everyone i know that has a 360 can play original Xbox games. Ironically enough, only one of them had the original xbox in the first place.

Out of experience whith various Xbox games running on 360, no they dont.
Nothing noticeable anyway.


The PS4 isnt backwards compatible because of the crap system set-up of the PS3 and it would be expensive and a chore to have backwards compatibility work. Plus, Sony can justify their purchase of Gaikai and have everything sold again digitally.
