Quote from: The Above Link"In 2010, Capcom tapped the talent behind Metroid Prime to bring Mega Man into the modern age â€" only to have the game suffer the fate of similar recent attempts to find a new audience for the 8-bit hero.

Codenamed Maverick Hunter, the first-person shooter had the blessing of Mega Man's creator and a talented team tasked with attracting a new generation of fans. But the departure of Keiji Inafune likely killed the most interesting take on the 25-year-old character to date.

Mega Man's foray into the first-person shooter genre looked, at least on paper, like a formula for success. One of a handful of collaborations with Western developers kicked off by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, the Mega Man first-person shooter was in development at Austin-based Armature Studio, the promising developer founded by Metroid Prime's creators. The new Mega Man would have been redesigned by the concept artist responsible for adapting Iron Man's armor for Marvel's successful film franchise. Thematically, the game would have built upon the mythology of Mega Man X, a series that was a darker, more mature spin-off of the cuter, classic Mega Man franchise.

The game would have stayed true to core Mega Man X gameplay concepts, re-imagining his X-Buster arm cannon, his dash and his ability to appropriate the special powers of his fallen enemies. Platforming elements, including X's wall jump, and classic Mega Man X characters would have been re-imagined in new ways.

Unfortunately, Armature's Mega Man first-person shooter, Maverick Hunter shared the fate of the Blue Bomber's other recent projects â€" Mega Man Legends 3, Mega Man Universe, Mega Man Online â€" and was canceled before the public ever had the opportunity to see it.

According to a number of Capcom sources, Armature's Maverick Hunter was prototyped and playable. It had a short lifespan, only about six months in the first half of 2010. It showed promise, sources said, but was deemed a significant gamble, and quietly killed before Inafune publicly exited Capcom in late 2010."

There are videos on that page as well.

While i dont see this being a "Mega Man" Game...
...that was the most original and most awesome looking FPS i have seen since the N64-Days. Oh. My. God.

I tl;dr's but it seems that ARMATURE was developer?
They're now working on a Batman game for Vita / 3DS

They're composed of guys from Retro that worked on the Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Nobody bought Maverick Hunter X, nobody bought Powered Up, not enough people showed interest in Megaman Legends 3

I'm starting to think that the reason these Megaman games keep getting cancelled is cause CAPCOM genuinely thinks people don't care about Megaman anymore...

That IS the reason Wind. Megaman isnt exactly a franchise known for its good sales.

So maybe the whole Inafune leaving thing may have just been a coincidence...
Or fans looking to blame something.

Capcom isnt kidding when they use "a vocal minority" in their press releases.

Mega Man stopped selling good after about Mega Man X4. Everything afterwards was flop.
Difference is, back then that still made enough money to be able to produce a sequel because budgets werent that high.

Nowdays, where game budgets are in the millions... yeah, no.

However, i question the fact that a Mega Man game wouldnt sell. I simply think no one bought Mega Man anymore because of the oversaturation of games, similar to Street Fighter.
And we all remember how Capcom didnt want to make any new Street Fighter (3?) until [guy whose name i do not remember] literally simply used capcom's money and starting working on SF4.

I still think it's too risky to make a MegaMan game now
Cause, how many of people simply want a new MegaMan game just cause "Megaman's important to gaming history", but wouldn't buy it?
I know I wouldn't, I'm not really a fan of Megaman... Except for maybe the RPGs
