Everybody gets asked a stupid question at least once in their life. Well in PMs, I got asked why I don't think Sonic Adventure 3 will ever come out. I have to say that while I had my hopes for it when I was little, I just don't think it will come out in 2013, 2014, 2015, or even 2087 and here's why...

The game wasn't ment to be a trilogy
One of the main things that people thing is that Sonic Adventure would be a trilogy based game. The one thing many don't know is Sonic Adventure 2 was only made to make a proper rival (Shadow) for Sonic to debut in a big game. That character was known as Shadow the hedgehog. SEGA only brought Shadow back because of the increase in fans complaints after Shadow's death moment at the end (spoilers). The secret is that if fans never even mentioned Shadow so much, the hedgehog would never have appeared in any other Sonic game or even get his own spin-off. Sonic Adventure was only made to explain Chaos and Sonic Adventure 2 just happened to come in because of one character (and no they didn't do it to also debut Rouge... they only brought her in to even up the teams for the hero/dark story concept).

There's no need for a third addition
Sonic Adventure had a plot based all around Chaos the god of destruction. Sonic Adventure 2 had a plot based around Shadow the hedgehog and Gerald Robotnik. This proves that both adventure titles had at least one main enemy to make the plot perfect. With so many scrapped characters and new characters, I doubt SEGA would want to make another new character anytime soon. Thus, Sonic Adventure 3 doesn't have any good plot idea and everybody knows that if a game has no story concept, it isn't a game. It'd be a waste of time. While even if SEGA added a new or old character to the game, the plot would still need to be developed to focus on that character mainly to be in any type of Sonic Adventure standard. The reason Sonic Unleashed wasn't Sonic Adventure 3 is because it was only based with Sonic, Chip and a big evil devil monster named Dark Gaia (more spoilers). The adventure series has multiple characters built into them because each character has their own story which gives it the adventure name. I doubt SEGA would go so crazy that they'd bring back an old character or new character and say he/she had a gigantic plot that involved turning into some new form and destroying the world. I repeat, there's no need for the a third big plot in the Sonic Adventure series.

Characters gave it the name
Finally, Sonic Adventure introduced us to the multiple characters storylines in one game (inception if you think about it enough). Sonic Adventure 2 introduced us to the hero/dark storyline concept which had 3 playable characters for each side. Each character had his/her own part in the main story no matter what version of Sonic Adventure you look at. Sonic Adventure got half of its own name because of the multiple characters and how they each had a story in the game. Knuckles focused on hunting pieces of the Master Emerald, Sonic focused on the main story itself, Big focused on fishing for no reason at all, and etc. Sonic Adventure 3 would need to have multiple characters to make itself earn the adventure title. I doubt this would happen in any other Sonic game. The reason Sonic Generations wasn't Sonic Adventure 3 is because the multiple characters in the game never had their own storylines. Each character must have some kind of storyline to fall close to being an adventure type of game. I repeat, that will most likely never happen ever again in a Sonic the hedgehog videogame.

I doubt that Sonic Adventure 3 will ever come out my friends because it just doesn't look like it ever will be capable of getting the adventure name. That is all I can say. Thanks for reading.

Actually during SA2's development only Sonic, Knuckles and Eggman were meant to be playable. Everyone else would have been cutscene only which I can only assume goes for Rouge and Shadow. They wanted to do a system were each character had good and evil endings but they figured it would be weird to see Sonic turn evil so they split the idea into two story modes and made Shadow playable.

...or at least that's what I heard.

I still consider '06 essentially SA3. The idea of a big adventure with many gameplay styles, getting worse with each iteration until it finally resulted in the near death of a franchise. It's the best worst thing to come out of video games.

Best worst, what an oxymoron.

I have to say that you, sir slender, raise very good and valid points, convincing me that there really won't be a sa3. Then GIn I don't follow new games much if at all anymore

Sega wouldn't want to risk screwing it up anyways.
