So what's your origin story? What video game(s) got you into gaming? And what's you're current relationship with said game(s)?

For me, it was 3 games actually. Before, I was one of those kids who thought video games were a waste of time and would much rather play outside and make my own adventures n' shit. But one of my cousins had a SEGA Genesis with Sonic the Hedgehog, and my interest in the character was laready piqued thanks to that AMV I got from limewire.

So I actually sat down and played it, and had bucket o' fun with Green Hill Zone... and only Green Hill Zone
So my curiosity in the concept of video games raised, but I still never bothered.

A few years later, my uncle got me an N64 with Donkey Kong 64 for Christmas... I played it, but I just couldn't care that much about it. It was there as a distraction from time to time on weekends, but otherwise my N64 was just there, collecting dust. My brother on the other hand couldn't get enough of it, and he kept collecting and trading games with his friends from Pokemon Stadium, to Ocarina of Time, and even Super Mario 64, but I on the other hand couldn't care less, would rather find ways to ride my dog like a horse and turn my regular slide into a waater slide, and defeating the Dark Lord Cthulu that lived in my tree.
But one day, one of my brother's friends came over, and he brought Super Smash Bros., and OMG it was the best thing ever, and to make matters better, he even let us borrow it for awhile. I spent all day after Toonami everyday playing that fucking game, and it never got old. And the dreaded day came where he came to take it back... I was much sad.

I asked if I got get my own Super Smash Bros... I wound up getting a PSOne instead... I don't remember how, but it happened...
And then, shortly after, my brother got Final Fantasy 7, which was the game that did it for me. Dat soundtrack, and dat charmingly blocky graphics, and dem characters that I grew to give a shit about that were not on Cartoon Network. It was a joy just watching my brother play it up until he stopped at Fort Condore for reasons. I couldn't wait for him to feel like picking it up again,  so I started my own file, and the rest is history.

So my current relationship with them?
Sonic the Hedgehog, as you all know, I fucking hate that game now, haven't touched it in forever, and have no plans to do so.

Super Smash Bros. I think still holds up even today. Personally I like it just as much Melee for a bunch of reasons, nameley the sound effects and that epic as fuck intro

I actually do go back to it from time to time on rare occasions when I have an N64 emulator on me, cause spoiler alert, I never owned the original SSB. In fact, Brawl is the first SSB I owned for myself, I had to visit America to play my cousin's Melee when she felt like letting us play it... ugh.

Final Fantasy 7, even to this day, I still think is one of the best RPGs ever made, neigh, one of the best games ever made. I think it's a game that everyone should play at least once. And It would be one of the games I'd beat every year... but it's kinda long and I have stuff to do =U

My brother got me into gaming when I was stupidly young. My memories go as far back as the NES though I can't recall the first game I played.

My first video game system was an SNES. My parents bought us a used SNES for Christmas (this was after the N64 had already come out so it must have been pretty cheap) and a bunch of used games. Among them were Super Mario World (the cartridge had a crack in it and the battery was loose so it would occasionally lose our saves), Super Mario Kart, Kirby's Avalanche, Goof Troop, and The Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse. I also recall us having Star Fox for a short while, but my parents got rid of it for some reason. Later on we got Street Fighter II Turbo and Mario Paint, although we never got the SNES Mouse to play it. Me and my sister would always bug my parents to get us one and they always said that they would (obviously they never did). We were stuck watching the demo screens which was still entertaining for us.

Those days we would also occasionally go to our cousins' houses and play their games. One of our cousins had an NES with all the Super Mario Bros. games and Duck Hunt. I could never get very far in those games even though I had beaten Super Mario World at that point. They also had an SNES but the only game I recall wanting to play was Donkey Kong Country. Again, I could never get past the first minecart stage. We had another cousin that had pretty much every SEGA console, although the only one I ever played was their Dreamcast. I would always just play the Sonic Adventure 2 demo (just City Escape over and over) and I'm pretty sure that was my first experience with a Sonic game.

I completely skipped the N64 and PS1 generation (although I was able to play them a couple times at people's houses). Later on I got an Xbox for Christmas with Spider-Man, Sega GT 2002, and Jet Set Radio Future. That was the generation that I really got into gaming and is the one with my fondest memories.

I recall my dad looking through a store newspaper with all the newest consoles and saying that we should get an Xbox because it had the hardest games. I don't know where he got that idea from.

I went through that entire generation without owning either of the Halo games. No regrets.

Depends on what he meant by "hardest"

Well it did take me a while to beat those games, but it's not because they were that hard or anything.

Sega GT 2002 was also the first video game that my dad got into (he played Street Fighter II a couple times but I think he didn't like that it was an unrealistic fighting game). I would do the races and he would watch me and pick what car parts I should buy. One day my sister convinced me to buy a new car in the game thinking that our dad would like the better car but he got mad and said that I should have continued to save up my money (that's my dad for ya). I tried to undo the damage by restarting the game but after that my dad lost interest in the game. He hasn't cared about a video game since (although he did play a little bit of Wii Sports when we first got a Wii).

Spider-Man: The Movie: The Game is actually a pretty good game. It's overshadowed by the later games that let you free-roam around New York, but this game was still fun. It's basically a continuation of the PS1/N64 Spider-Man games. One of my favourite parts of the game is that you can unlock the Green Goblin and play through the entire game as him (complete with glider and pumpkin bombs). There's also Spidey Bowling which is a neat novelty but not much fun.

I don't think I need to sing any more praises for Jet Set Radio Future. This game took me a while to beat too. My first copy of it (that was bundled with my Xbox and came with Sega GT 2002 on the same disk) got scratched up and I actually didn't have the game anymore for a while, but luckily one of my friends traded for his standalone copy of the game. That's when I was able to 100% it. Of course later on my Xbox's DVD drive got messed up and stopped reading disks (apparently many of the early Xboxes had this problem) and I couldn't play any of my games anymore. That's when me and my beloved were forced to part. It's been around 5 years since then. Hopefully one day I'll be reunited with my love (when SEGA puts out an HD version).

I also really liked the Spider-Man game, free roam is overrated.
I got the PS2 version tho. Did the Xbox version still have the cheat codes?

Yep. It also had two exclusive levels where you fight against Kraven.

I also remember Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 had an exclusive character (skeleton) and level (oil rig) for the Xbox version (although the level was later ported to Tony Hawk's American Wasteland). Aggressive Inline also had an exclusive level (zoo) on Xbox. I guess Microsoft were paying for multiplatform games to have exclusive content for their system. They chose some weird games though. Who was thinking of purchasing a new console and said "Oh shit, Spider-Man: The Movie: The Game has an exclusive level on Xbox! Gotta get that console!"?
