Yeah, it got greenlit after Godzilla made over $200 Million in just a weekend.
Director Gareth Edwards will be back for both sequels.

However, it'll be atleast 4 years untill the next one comes out, since he's working on a star wars spin-off.

I want Biollante and Orga in the reboot our of sheer fanboy desire, but I'm sure the next movies will focus on the more iconic monsters like Mecha-Godzilla and Destroyah. Mothra and King Gidorah would be cool to see back too.

After seeing the Movie, I'm pretty sure Mechagodzilla is out of the question, as it is taking a more grounded approach.

Something like Biollante, Megaguirus or Destoroyah seem the most likely.
Although Gyaos MUTO over here was really similar to Megaguirus.

Although if they DO pull of Mechagodzilla, I hope he's more like Kiryu, and less like... those others.

So was Rodan actually in the movie?

It's Gyaos Muto.
A new Kaiju.

This must be one serious as hell reboot if the only returning monster is Godzilla.

It is really serious. "Grown Mans Godzilla".

I think its best compared with either the original or Godzilla 1985.

So no cartoonish charm? That's a bit disappointing. Silly, yes but this scene is the most memorable in the franchise to me.

This Movie has very memorable, awesome scenes. But it's never over the top silly.
You have to see it to truly "feel it".

As someone who has watched every single G-Flick, this certainly ranks among the Top 3.

And to be fair, they moved away from the the silly Godzilla movies for a reason.
Final Wars was the biggest box office flop the franchise had since... well, the last the time they had to reboot the thing (because of the same reason). Not counting '98 Godzilla.

Hakudamashi

I've never watched a Godzilla movie other than the one done by the Independence Day guy.
So I have no idea what any of you are talking about.
