That's a matter of speech, which is forever changing with the times.

I'm talking about the meaning of words.

Does it make sense to use professional interchangeably with expert when the two words have nothing to do with each other?
Professional means you're getting paid, expert means you're good at it.
You can be good at something and not get paid for it, and you can get paid for something you're not good at. We made these two different words for two different cases. Fusing words like that just causes unnecessary confusion when one tries to express a thought.

Going back to your "example"
It still means "Do you think we should go back to talking like this?" I still understand what you say cause each word you used, despite it's change in spelling and possibly pronunciation through the times, still mean what they're supposed to mean, the words have not lost their purpose.
