The Game Gear ones were pretty neat too.

Most of the time, yes.
Latelly I played Sonic 4 Episode 2 on my phone, the spin dash was a pain to pull out though.

So when they stopped releasing them on PC you were shit out of luck, eh?

A little, If I remember correctly I couldn't get past the tutorial because I had to pull some special move on that ancient robot and I failed to do so, but that was a long time before, maybe I'll give it a try again in the near future.
