This game shouldn't have been called Final Fantasy. The reception would've been much better.

For the love of fucking GOD Kyo do we have to have this disscussion again?

There is nothing wrong with change, but YOU tell ME what is the logic in:
-Removing my huge overworld connecting ALL the locales packed to the brim with sidequests OTHER than "Go hunt this"
-Taking away the ability to control our own airship
-WHERE THE F*CK IS METEOR AND ULTIMA?(Actually this one's a bit of a nitpick)
-Actually smart and well hidden loot
-Where are the absurd superbossess?
-Where are the minigames?

Why change all of those for what we got? Are you telling me these changes are an improvement? They made the franchise better? This is a step forward for Final Fantasy?

The Job system is a positive welcome change that moved the franchise forward
The ATB system is a positive welcome change that moved the franchise forward
The MP meter/guage is a positive welcome change that moved the franchise forward
The Materia system was a welcome change of pace cause it didn't FUCK OVER what makes Final Fantasy what it was.
The Junction System, albeit a bit broken, didn't fuck over what makes Final Fantasy what it was.
The Ability Points system, albeit I didn't like it personally, didn't fuck over what makes Final Fantasy what it was.
The sphere grid? The Liscence points? Being turned into a fucking MMO?

What did FFXIII do for the Final Fantasy name that makes it go forward? What did they add that made any sense in the world of Final Fantasy?
The game doesn't even have the Final Fantasy theme song
Where the fuck do you come off saying we don't like FFXIII JUST because it "changed".

And CHRIST, for the least time I don't Hate this fucking game. I like the BGM, I like the characters, I like the combat, the story, the graphics, the fact that you are healed back to health after each fight, and I certaintly don't mind the linearity of it. I LIKE THE GAME, but you have to explain, why, in the name of all that has sense, why this game had to be titled "Final Fantasy"? What does it have anything to do with anything about Final Fantasy other than a few "references" and "nods" so some of the FF creatures?

CALM YOUR TITS

They tried something new with their game, not everyone liked it, oh well who cares.

How is this not final fantasy? the games never really tied together before besides the few references and the reusage of monsters.

I'll "calm my tits" when I people stop using this annoying and WRONG argument of "Fans hate it because there's change".

the main theme of Final fantasy was not played in Final fantasy II and X either.

QuoteRemoving my huge overworld connecting ALL the locales packed to the brim with sidequests OTHER than "Go hunt this"

Not all Final fantasy games have a lot of sidequests like FF1 you couldn't really do the sidequests/dungeons until late in the game because the monsters were too powerful so they might as well have been available late game like FFXIII

QuoteTaking away the ability to control our own airship

Why would you need to? The l'cie stones AND the portals made through the story line are enough to easily traverse the available areas of the game. Failing that you also have chocobo's.

QuoteWhere are the absurd superbossess?

well someone hasn't played through the side quests.

As for changes that brought the system forward, the paradigm system was a welcome change to the game (or at least it was in my and some other peoples opinion) when combined with the class system. It saves you having to switch roles in between battles and adds an extra layer of strategy into the fights themselves.

IMO the story is very FF-like "there is a powerful organisation/villian and you have a rag-tag group of heroes with which to stop them." when you dumb it down to basics. The groups characters also follow the typical format of the more recent final fantasy games as explained by Yahtzee (from the zero punctuation reviews) "we have angsty spice, serious spice, manly spice, ethnic spice and of course the inevitable kookie spice." (although being a non JRPG fan he did not play far enough into the game for Fang)

We also have the use of other Final fantasy spells, weapons, summons and monsters.

They tried to do something different with the game, but instead of making one or two changes like in previous games they made a few more which for most people brings us back to kyo-cats "change is bad" picture. (yes I said most people, not directing that at you wind before you blow a gasket)

also long gui and ultima <.<>.>

(Had to google an original version before i recognized it lol)
Ah.

Well, s' not that big of a deal.
Halo 4 didnt have the Halo Theme either.

They both have fairly amazing themes in their own right that fit the game better.
... Okay, Halo 4 has a musical cue to the main theme to make a certain happening in the story more powerful.
... But so does FF13.

It also wasn't in FFVIII, what's your point? My point is that FFXIII has neither of the themes on top of all the other wrongs.

The sidequests, regardless of being at the beginning or not, had variety, from reuniting lovers to visiting a porn theatre, all XIII has is "go kill this".
And whereas other Final Fantasies gave you the option to do these early if you had the balls to try it, FFXIII doesn't even introduce the concept of a sidequest until 24hrs into the game.

For the people who want an airship? We had teleportation and Chocobos, and submarines, and spaceships, and buggies and all manners of transportation in previous FFs, but that never stopped them from giving us an awesome airship.

I played those annoying search and destroy missions, and that's what they were... annoying. Just annoying bullet proof walls with predictable unimaginative patterns who kill you in 2 hits if you haven't maxed out your Chrystarium.
The optional superbosses were imaginative creatures of some mythology where their attack patterns and weakness were derived from said lore(Well, some of em anyway...). And also you had to go out of your way to go on some semi-ridiculous goose chase to even find it. And also, they could've been attempted BEFORE the actual final boss?

I agree. I also appreciate "Auto Battle" since what you pretty much end up doing in any battle is mash "X" on your same spells anyway.

These are truopes for every JRPG ever, most of which is just derived from Japanese culture, it's even in anime. None of that has enough bearing that this game should be called "Final Fantasy".

For the amount of bitching people give the industry for not making enough new IPs, why are they  the same people who praise seuqels when they get released? Oh, it's cause "They changed so much to make it fresh"? Hey guys, how about the next time change a franchise soo much that it no longer resembles it's source material other than just a few common video game troupes, why not just change the title too?

Well, s' not that big of a deal.
It really isn't, some other Final Fantasies don't have either theme, but my point was that this game pretty much went and did it's own thing creating it's own identity, being it's own game, but for some fucking reason it just has the Final Fantasy name on it. It doesn't even have either of themes to at least suggest "Yes fans, we care about the Final Fantasy name, we're just trying something different this time"...

well so

currently the biggest "Square Enix" rumour out there is that

Final Fantasy Versus 13 has "moved on" and will be rebranded as Final Fantasy 15.
Now, keep in mind that Versus 13 basically is (or was) an third person action game... idunno if thats a good thing.

Hakudamashi

Never got why it was called Versus XIII to begin with.
Just as long it doesn't turn into another Duke Nukem Forever...

Never got why it was called Versus XIII to begin with.

It uses the same mythology as the rest of XIII- with all the crystals, l'cie and fal'cie being major plotpoints- even though Versus XIII is set in an alternate "XIII" Universe.

Typo-0 is also a part of the 13 Series.

Hakudamashi

Wasn't it called Novula Chrystallium or something? Why not just call it that?

It's real mythology btw.
