Both. Each has things the other doesn't, and neither should be treated as less of a great game.
Why do most ppl treat Brawl like it's Nintendo's BIGGEST mistake  :-\

Probably because of the fact that its on a dual layer disc. That causes loads of trouble right there. The load times can sometimes take what seems like forever. Occasionaly it won't load parts of the game at all, such as the transiton from parts of Castle Seige, or even Final Smashes sometimes won't load for a while. Then there are a fair amount of glitches (I personally think glitches make a game even more fun when you mess with them). So it's basically a combination of a lot of minor things...

Yeah. You didn't know that? I read that on the Brawl help section on Nintendo.com. That's why Brendon's Brawl won't work all the way, but does part way. It only got cut through one layer.

Brawl. For various reasons actually...
Although the gameplay in brawl in slower it seems more "stable" and the physics are just better. It has an 8 hour long story mode which is actually good and just has much more extras and features. The soundtrack is huge and is the best nintendo soundtrack ever, it even has some sonic ones like Green Hill zone! It was also the fastest selling nintendo game ever.

If you're reading this, your a NOOB!!!

A single layer disc is a disc with ONE layer. A dual layer disc is a disc with TWO layers.

lol,all the ppl who say Melee is better I guess is either:
1.Just like Sonic haters,they can't except change
2.They don't have a Wii
3.Haven't played it and is just joining the crowd
