Robotnik is erasing Sonic's family tree in order to get the Chaos Emerald of Immortality. Sonic goes after him, prevent Robotnik from interfering with his ancestors' meeting, and then race to the crypt of Robotnik's ancestor Robotnikhotep, where the Emerald is kept.
