Title: Something I Felt Like Sharing With The Rest Of You.
Post by: Hakudamashi on December 12, 2013, 06:37:36 PM
Y'know what I love most? Characters and people. I like learning and trying to understand them.

Know what my favourite part of a piece of fiction is, whether it be an anime or a game or manga? The filler.
Yes, I actually like filler episodes, or filler segments the most in my fictional media, cause it's in these moments where I get to learn the most about the chracters in them, y'know, when they're not in danger, no impeding threat, no dire situation, what do they do when they have time to themselves and can just breathe.

I think that having a likeable/interesting cast of characters is the most important part of any fiction. You could have the best story, or the most fun game mechanics, or the most beautiful art, but if I don't enjoy the characters that have to partake in the endeavour, then it is an outright deal breaker for me, it is why I prefer FFXIII to XIII-2. The character cast is a huge, and possibly the definitive factor in persuading me to like one thing over another, or like it at all.

Inconsistency gets me very angry. If there's one thing that gets me genuinely upset, it's inconsistency about things. Going to a restaurant that had a red menu, then going to the same restaurant but this time they have a blue menu, small inconsistencies  like people being late when they're normally early(and vice versa), and big inconsistencies like random power outages. But the biggest one that consistently succeeds to get my panties in a bunch is character inconsistency, when you say that it's the supposedly the same character I've come to know, but they do things that clash with what I know of them before.

With that said, I am however quite fond of "elseworld" stories. Where you take a character, all of his/her "core traits" are there, but they're given a new beginning, maybe born in a different time, or place, maybe be adopted this time, etc. It fascinates me how the slightest of changes in someone's past can more or less completely change what they grow up to be.

Contrary to what I may have portrayed, I actually do love people. More specifically, I love the people who I have the time and the means to sit down and communicate with without being interrupted. Even if I do not become friends with them, I do at the very least enjoy seeing someone else's viewpoint on things.

I don't like people leaving, parties, communities...forums. It leaves a void in my heart, unless the person left on good terms, a clear conscious and no regrets.

My value of not telling people what to do/not imposing my will or opinions on others supersedes my want to talk to others. If I engage in a convo with someone, and I get a hint that he/she is uncomfortable, I either clam up, or try to change the subject.

I'm one of those friends who will randomly, out of nowhere, suddenly come to you and ask a personal question "Hey ____ why is _____ your favourite _____?" But as I said, if I get a hint that it may cause discomfort, I keep quiet. So the more I get the feeling that you're "cool with it", the more frequent I ask.

I love bright colours. Anything that has colours that pop out, my favourite being red and blue.

Blazblue is my favourite fighting game franchise(for now) and Okazaki Tomoya is still my favourite fictional character ever.

That's everything I wanted to share with you guys off the top of my head =)

Except Capcom said many times over that this isn't some elseworld Dante, it's supposed to be the new main Dante, completely replacing the old one, never to be seen again.

There's a difference.

His world still exists, spanning 4 games and an anime series as well a few comics.

This isnt like Godzilla 1985, where simply all movies that came before aside from the original were made void.
It still exists, seperately. It's story has been told.

A new beginning. A new story.

I honestly prefer entire anime like that. Yeah a bit of fighting is cool every so often but it's intresting to watch them live a casual life too.

I've always felt it was more gameplay in games but you have a point with things like anime. I mean, I watched Carnival Phantasm just for Saber.

Well after 600+ episodes (*cough*Ash*cough*) you can't expect the writers to be able to remember every fine detail, but I get your point.

How do you feel about games with different story modes (Sonic Adventure, P4A, etc) that show the same scenarios with different variations? Like I've seen games that'll repeat the same scene twice in two stories but change the dialogue between the characters. I realize it's to keep things interesting but it sets my OCD off. Especially if I skip through the text and don't notice it's different until I missed half of it.

I have too many stories for characters so I actually tend to do this a lot. One of the things I want to do in my story heavy games is throw in a bunch of, "what-if" missions and I'd like to see a lot of devs do the same thing (*cough*DBZ*cough*Soul Calibur*cough*).

See, I'm the exact opposite. I think that, while it isn't my right to tell someone what to do it is my job to steer them in the right direction if we're friends. It's why I always got so protective over Kay. If I think you're doing something that could end badly for you you're going to hear me out on it rather you like it or not and if it makes you uncomfortable you need to get the fuck over it.

How is this different from Godzilla?
They upright quit a story that still had much growing to do be done, then force feed this new version of the supposed same characters as if they're better or something. And it isn't even like they stopped it on that much of a "The End" note. What's up with Nero? Where'd he get the devil arm? What were Dante and Vergil's childhoods like? Why can't we play as Trish or Lady? Whatever happens to Dante's old weapons? So many things they can do to keep the franchise going like Fairy Tail, and instead of running this filth simultaneously like what they did with Megaman X and Megaman.EXE, they just upright replaced it and told us to "Deal with it".

This is why slice of life anime like Nichijou and Clannad are my favourites. And shows that really balance it out like Teen Titans and The Last Airbender.

True, gameplay really should be the most important thing, but a good cast can make me forgive a lot of stuff... but my tolerance is still limited.
I'm also one of those people who seek out stuff just cause a character I like is in it, Kirby is the reason I got into Smash Bros.

Could they at least remember he's been to multiple PKMN leagues and should know by now not to throw pokeballs at little girls?
Also, f*ck Dissidia and Sonic post Colours.

I like how SA1 handled it where the events are told through the perspective of who's story it is, like how Eggman sounds more menancing in Tails' story, but like some cheap saturday morning cartoon villian in Sonic's story, gives me a deeper inspection on the character seeing the world through their eyes.

Oh, the What-If stories. DBZ Budokai and Naruto Ultimate Ninja were the best with that shit, and I loved every second. More devs need to make extra "What-If" Story Modes in their games >=U
Actually, this is also why I'm actually more excited to see if an adaption derails from the main plot and does things differently, like Full Metal Alchemist anime...the first one.

Y'know what else?

I love girls with long hair, like alot. So much so that I actually feel physical pain when I see a girl's hair get cut. My heart also gets filled with anxiety when I see a girl with long hair due to fear that her hair may get cut.
I also apparently give a light squeal when  I see girl grow her hair out.
However, if the hair is long enough that i's touching the ground, that's a big nono.

It makes me angrier than I think it should...

Basically they want more compliments.

Because noone believes in "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder"...
If someone says you're not ugly, or good at drawing, or whatever, I'd think you'd be happy that you appeal to someone, so you should take that as motivation to get better or something, not render the compliment void.

To be honest, I always believe that they just say it to make the subject feel better.
Really, no one will tell someone he's ugly unless its some random dud he doesnt know.

You'd be surprised how accurate L.A. Noire's lie detection really is. You gotta be either psychotic, or trained in the art of lieing to bypass that shit.

Also
Even though I said I hate inccinsistencies more than anything, yandere anime/manga/movies/comics is my cathartic fix.
By that I mean, anything that has the protagonist appearing to be a kewl/innocent dood/gal, but then they turn into psychotic twisted beings with no regards for human life, or maybe they always were like that and were just good at hiding it =O.
