A question for hardcore Pokemon fans...

All right, so I'm rebuilding my team. I've been doing some research about breeding and found out that Shuckle has the highest defense of any Pokemon. I don't want a Shuckle, though. I want Rampardos for his high attack stat. So my question for you is, if I bred a male Shuckle holding the band that carries the defense stat over, would it continue to work through chain breeding? I've filled the gap and it's possible to connect the two. I'm just confused if the IV would still be Shuckle's or Feraligator's that went to Rampardos. Here's my chain:

Shuckle (def) + Drapion = Drapion (def) + Corsola = Corsola (def) + Feraligator = Feraligator (def) + Rhampharos = Rampharos (def)?

(def) is obviously Shuckle's defense stat.

So, I ask you, will it work, and will it be worth it?
