Spam bot attack!!!

Yes, close the forum.

The only way to do that without shutting us down, would be to block the site off from search engines,
thus alienating newcomers

wrong. what you do is make a confirmation email sent when registering as bots most often use fake emails... then use a cappta thingy (that box with an image where you type what it displays)... the forum is capable of doing both. this will stop 99% of spam bots... i have yet to get a spam bot on my forum since doing this

then use email activation... would majorly reduce spam bots as they just fill some random address in the registration
