He's not that much older. In fact, Sonic has three years on Amy. Tails only has two on Cream. And maybe they are a bit young, but again, it's pure speculation. I noticed a slight moment in Sonic Advance 3, where Tails fixed up G-mel for her. And besides, the first thing that starts a spark is hanging together. Cream is very sweet, and here's something. Tails sometimes gets into the habit of speaking a bunch of technological mumbo jumbo, which usually annoys whoever he's talking to, which makes them try to shut him up. Cream isn't like that, she'd listen and try to understand, if she doesn't, Tails can simplify, but she would never want to hurt anyone by saying he's annoying.

The possibility could be there when both are older...but I don't see them being anymore than just friends.
Tails seems like the nerdy inventor type, not to say he won't have children someday or have a girlfriend/wife but I doubt it'll be anything like that with Cream.
What about Charmy and Cream? They're the same age, I think they'd be cute together with the whole puppy love thing.

Charmy is far too hyper, and he's known to make rude remarks every now and then. And Cream is notorious for being polite in every manner. No way the wacky Charmy would work with Cream. Tails may be this super genius, but he is, nevertheless, still only 8 years old. And as mature as he may act, I'm sure there are still bits of little kid in him. You may not agree with this, but in Sonic X, Tails and Cream are seen watching TV together. That may or may not be a small moment, but it shows that Tails still enjoys doing things that little kids do sometimes. And Cream is always willing to learn new things, and who would be a better teacher than Tails?

Now, you made a comment about how you said Scourge didn't exist in another thread because he's in the comic's universe. How is Sonic X any different? I'm talking strictly from the game's perspective.

I accept the reality of Sonic X because most of it goes with my Sonamy belief. I'm too lazy to put the video right now, but there are a whole bunch of moments for them there. The main reason I don't like the comics, is because there are a bunch of characters there that contradict with that. Not to mention that it's basically a darker Sonic-verse. And I think in order to for there to be a possible couple, there needs to be something in common. And the only thing that Charmy and Cream have in common is the fact that they're the same age. Besides, I think Cream already got a bad first impression of Charmy. In Sonic Heroes, the Chaotix attempted to take Cheese away from her, and she really didn't appreciate that. Plus, when they started to fight, Charmy was glad that they had provoked a fight. Why? Maybe he was bored, who knows? But Cream doesn't fight for fun, she doesn't even approve of Amy's kick-boxing in Sonic Battle. If Charmy was getting into fights left and right, what would Cream be able to do about it anyway? Not to mention Cream's naivity. She got a bad first impression of him, and despite working together with him to stop Metal Sonic, she's probably still a little paranoid. That's why Tails is still better, Cream already has an impression of Tails as a good and trusted friend. And you know? The teacher/student role could move into something more someday. Have you ever seen a TV show or movie, when the guy comes up next to the girl, and guides her arms/hands into doing the correct thing? Maybe at first, Tails wouldn't mean anything. But sometimes feelings can hit you suddenly, like what happened with me.

They're pretty far away from hitting puberty yet, and it's kind of normal for little girls to be more passive when they play, and little boys to be more aggressive. There are exceptions of course, but this seems to be the case. People change, it's possible when Charmy and Cream grow up and mature that they could find an attraction to each other. Just because a boy might say, put worms in a girl's hair in kindergarden or first grade, doesn't mean they won't be attracted to each other in Highschool. (By the way, the old saying goes...when you pick on someone...it means you like them. :p)
To use Sonic X to support your points JUST because you like the couples in that series but not in the Comics, doesn't make for a valid argument in my opinion. I go by the games because Sonic begins and ends with the games regardless of what series and comics are out there. The games will always be in my opinion, the official storyline. I mean, I might as well say Sonic should be with Sarah and use the Sonic the Movie anime to support my point. It doesn't mean I don't like the characters in Sonic X, or in the comics, but to me they aren't really official characters if they aren't in the games. And in the games, Tails barely talks to Cream, and probably views her more as a kid sister than anything else if at all. I don't think that there's any potential for Tails and Cream, Cream's still a little girl and her interests may change by the time she's Tails' age.
Look at Amy, she's certainly grown up and changed quite a bit since her first incarnation in Sonic CD. The only thing that hasn't changed is her annoying crush on Sonic.
And by the way, like I said before, sure the student/teacher thing COULD evolve into a romance, but it sounds more like a highschool girl's crush on the hot teacher. Tails, like I said before, doesn't seem interested in romance, and neither does Cream. I think Cream's interests would probably be having tea parties with Cheese and some plush animals and maybe other Chao, while Tails' interests would probably go along the lines of building heavy artillery and machines that Rival Eggmans, although his machines would be used for the benefit of...well...I wouldn't say mankind and in the games universe they no longer use the term "Mobian" so...furrykind?
Anyway, while it's certainly a possibility, and I admit that every character pairing is certainly a possibility, I personally, don't see it happening, and I'm not sure that I would want to see it happen.

It could be that I simply don't like Tails and Cream because, it's a Mainstream coupling and the fact that it just seems like because Cream is essentially the "Tails" for Amy, that she should be with Tails. I'm not really sure. Actually, I feel more neutral about the couple than anything else. The only couples I'm probably going to be more aggressive in supporting are Sonic/Blaze and Knuckles/Shade.
