From the chat earlier, in my sleep deprived state I came up with this:

Pac-Man is a game about a priest exorcising demons from a home.
The pellets are holy water
when pac-man "eats" a demon it is exorcised
but the power of satan is strong, and he sends it back to prevent the home from being sanctified
once holy water is spread throughout the house, it is sanctified and the priest moves onto the next place
but its a losing battle
the Kill Screen is the priest being consumed by the darkness he combats
