The Comedy in Sora no Otoshimono is something that lives off of timing and pacing. Especially the slapstick jokes.
The Anime lacks that precise timing, so it just comes off as mean-spirited when Sohara hits Tomoki.

I'd say check out the first 3 Volumes and see if they like it. (Manga's are really cheap).
While you're at it, check out Uzumaki. I only looked into it in the store and just... what.

The fact that the Story actually amounts to something also makes it feel... quite literally 'above' the average harem shlock.


Also, Hiyori has a way bigger part than it she has in the Anime.

Also, the story is completely effed up in the Anime. Season One and Two span 6 Volumes in total and the first Movie is just all over the place. Yet, the second movie somehow supposed to end at the same spot as Volume 19 of the Manga.
