Confirmed stuff:

- Objective marker shows you in what direction and how far away you are from the objective
- No more mixing herbs for more powerful healing
- Targeting reticule instead of laser aiming
- Flashlights worn on heads
- $1300 special edition, only includes the game, a set of four tablet case covers and Leon Kennedy's leather jacket
- Pre-order Mercenaries map DLC that changes depending on where you pre-order the game
- Wind's favourite game of the year and Capcom definitely aren't sellouts

You know a company isn't jsut going to stick to their roots "Because they can". All franchises try new things, sometimes they end up selling well. This sells well, as a game, not as a genre.

/logic

Honestly... there's so many survival horror games out there. Most of em fucking rule at first.. but then every sequel after that sucks donkey balls because it's like.. the same thing over again.

If you want survival horror, get the 3DS game?

Yes, because the Mario and Zelda franchises are soo well recieved and have a quiet, loyal fanbase because they stray from their roots and dick around with a bunch of game elements till they find one that sells the most >_>

Infact, isn't the Sonic franchise the way it is because it strayed from it's roots?

If the company is tired of using the same gameplay style over and over again, why not make a new IP, instead of screwing with the fans who preferred the old ways?

Same could be said about FPS, but those are still being made =/

damn you reply quick, i deleted the post and wanted to rewrite it a bit more detailed.
but fuck it.

So yeah;

Leon - Survival Horror
Chris - Resident Evil 4 / 5
Jake - 'Escaping' something 'Relentless' plus Sherri to look out for.

The Controls are modernized, BUT there is the option to change the control scheme back to the Resi 4 / 5 Style.

What a horrible argument. Mario and Zelda, if anything, have changed the MOST. Especially when they went 3D..
The only thing all these games have in common is the same base formula, even with this game, that remains.
Yes, you are right to an extent. But how is that relevant... at all?

That's a failure to create a good, new formula, that kills a franchise. Whereas this particular franchise has received much success from it's changes. Sure, if it aint broke don't fix it, but if you aint gonna tweak it a bit it'll get incredibly boring. CoD anyone? This genre ESPECIALLY, is a touchy one. You CAN NOT keep it the same in any more than one entry. It begins to become stale, and unenjoyable. Something new needs to come of every title. Pressure right? I can't say switching from Survival to action is the best decision on paper but it sells well. The fact you're getting what your getting is enough to cherish and you shouldn't be complaining about it. You're just making yourself look ridiculous.

It's like those 2D Sonic Fags who complain about SEGAs attempts at 2D sonic games in a modern era, but still buy them and have fun anyway.
It's like those Pokemon Gen 1 fags who say every new generation sucks but still brag about playing every fucking game in the franchise.

Honestly, it's as if you're asking them to copy paste a game and re-sell it because you get "more enjoyment" out of seeing a game EXACTLY like it's prequel. This is why we can't have nice things.

Yet another fucking ignorant statement. Have you EVER played a good FPS? Or do you judge judge from CoD/Battlefield bullshit? Play Crysis, Far Cry, Bulletstorm, Star Wars: Battlefront, Dead Island, Modern Warfare, Fallout 3 , Left 4 Dead, FEAR, etc. Tell me they're all the same, Wind. I DARE YOU.

I personally like these Third-person Survival horror games to a degree. But I've never seen any real innovation in it at all. It all relies on the same function, and eventually, the only interesting thing tying together the uncreative corridor-crawling is the story behind it. Which is almost always filled with atrocious writing anyway. Cheap thrills get boring after a while, ya know. The 5th Gen did better than this. At least action Horror games have meat to them. In fact, I give props to capcom for even listening to people like you and trying again in a genre that almost never fails to disappoint more and more after each entry.

And yes, most of that is fuelled by my own opinions. But money speaks louder than I do, and statistically, What they're selling is.. well, selling. You can't deny that a massive company is wise to persue such ambitions.

Well actually I have played all of those... except Battlefront, and I at least applaud those like Bullestorm with the whole kill with skill thing it had going for it, I applauded Dead Island with it's focus on melee combat instead of gun everything, I applaud Fallout for it's intriguing way of shooting things, and I REALLY applaud FEAR for genuinely creeping me the f*ck out.
See, I applaud those first person games that take all the stuff that works with genre, and expand upon, or just outwright donkey f*ck the whole thing to do something more innovative, but what I was talking about is how when anyone hears "FPS" you think "Military shooter" where all you get is a weak plot with a poor excuse for you to move to the next area and shoot everything where L1 to aim and R1 to fire blahblahblah, then you get sh*t like Bodycount and Brink, at least Syndicate tried something with the whole Jesus chip augment powers...thing.

What I was trying to get at was that, if you build a franchise, it should some central theme, or some core mechanic y'know?
Like in Mario, do what you will the story, the environment, turn all the goombas into tiny dildos, but Mario at it's core is a simple platformer. From Super Mario Bros. 3 -> Super Mario 64, alot of stuff changed, an actual hub world instead of that overworld map foolishness, each level has multiple objectives aside from "get to the flag post", acrobatics, voices, but even with all the changes, the core essence that makes Mario... Mario was still there, it was still a simple platformer of running n' jumping.

Resident Evil on the other hand, when entering the franchise you I assumed that the core mechanic was that I'm gonna control a character in an enclosed environment, with few VERY limited weaponry, constantly to be in fear of whatever may or may not pop out at me where I must constantly and carefully plan my every move before I even think of touching the control so as to be as prepared as possible for whatever may gnaw through my torso...
So seeing this whole "kill everything in sight" kinda gameplay has me feel a little... "betrayed"... I doubt that's the word I'm looking for but whatevahs.

It's not really an "argument" per say as there is no ill will amongst us

And it may not matter to you, but this topic does matter to me, and maybe it matters to Iris

No.

And I apologise Wind. I'm australian, I pretty much swear by nature. I mean nothing really offensive by it at all.

also, the release was moved from the 20th of November to the 2nd of October.

Obviously they're trying to escape Call of Duty & Metal Gear - but they're not the only ones to do that.

BioShock, Assassins Creed & Medal of Honor all have a October release aswell.

Plus a strong September line-up with Borderlands 2, Far Cry 3 and SEGA's Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Plus the release of the wii u, without a Resi 6 for it.
Plus the return of the old giant; Halo - with its newest entry, Halo 4.

...and dont forget all those games that only have been teased, and those that are to be revealed at E3.

While 'Resident Evil' sure is a big franchise, it'll have a hard time against all of those titles.

Facing off Call of Duty aint wise, but against all of those others only makes it worse if you ask me.

Tanassy

Far Cry 3 and ACIII would have eaten up all my money by them, no doubt. I guess I miss out =P
