just something dark and serious.

Please no Akira, Ghost in the Shell or anything old generally, unless it has a clean animation style like nausicaƤ.

These i've seen;

Elija2

Pokemon: The First Movie is dark and serious?

Supersonic196

Have you seen howls moving castle? It's not really dark so much as it is abstract. I loved it though.
YOU might like Karas. I didn't. It features a loose (awful), very dark plot and over 5 billion gallons of blood...

That pikachu versus pikachu fight scene was some heavy stuff.

F*ck, there was the one creepy movie that scared the sh*t outta me that showed on Toonami... but I can't remember the name...

Also, have you seen Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away?

Karas - No thanks. There needs to be substance.
The Moving Castle - Also no thanks. Too light-hearted for my taste.

Something like Kara no Kyoukai. Something that makes you think and is beautiful.

Okay, maybe not that dark. But you get what i mean.

Have you ever tried Murder Princess? It's not a movie but with only 6 episodes it might as well have been. You can tell me how it is.

Edit: Oh, wait. Something that makes you think...?

*shrug*

Have you seen Blood: The Last Vampire?

If you liked Summer Wars, watch the Digimon movie. It's the same thing. The first part anyway.

The first two live-action Death Note movies are pretty good, but they aren't anime...

Maybe it's just my princess fetish talking here but the concept sounds..."neat", to say the least. Apparently a princess falls off a cliff onto an assassin and during their near death experience their souls get confused and enter the wrong bodies so you have a psychopathic princess chopping off heads and a naive, most likely adorable, assassin going around trying to make friends.

Like I said. If you do watch it it's something that's interested me so if you like it I can trust your opinion enough to try it myself. =P

Grave of the Fireflies is pre-Ghibli. It's as serious as can be. I could spoil it for you, but people die is sad ways. Kids. And watching it a second time makes you realize what a person at the beginning of the movie dumps out of a tin is actually the ashes of the guy's sister. There's no happy ending. It's based on a real story, only they went and killed the guy in the movie that lived in real life just to make it bleaker.
