Ever watched Ghost in the Shell?

Well, aside from those cyber-glasses by google, arm-augmentation from microsoft we also have this.

A Team of Russian researchers are building a conceptual mind-transfer android. However bizarre, their goal is to help mankind achieve immortality using a combination of humanoid robots and interstellar space travel to get away from a dangerous and overcrowded planet -- but most of the needed technology seems so far off that we could probably power cycle the world's slowest Linux computer a million times before we see any of it. One prototype includes the torso of an android that will one day house a a computer rig that would be theoretically capable of acting as a personal proxy -- essentially, a place to upload "human souls." This absolutely insane über-ambitious project is the stuff of science fiction, but the big shots over in the birthplace of Tetris say it'll all be possible by 2045. Need more convincing? Check out the two videos.

We are slowly coming towards that 'Ghost in the Shell' reality.

Immortality is for squares.

Why the f*ck would you want humans to become immortal? If you get rid of the fear of dieing, then there will be no limit to how stupid people can get

not really, just think about it.

If its a transferred mind, it would still a be human thinking - but it aint a human anymore.

It would still be you, locked into the body of an android.
Exactly. So unless you could use your body correctly how would that be torture? Sure, you'd still be afraid of death but unless you fell off a cliff and your body exploded leaving you to collect dust on the sidewalk for years I can't see how it'd be torture.

If you run of engergy,  the electro-magnetic-impluse powering your mind would fade away and you'd day.
Not only that, you wouldnt be able to feel, well... anything.
And in case something happens, do you think someone will really spend thousands of dollars to 'save' a robot in case something happens?
I don't know how robots work but can you really say that from experience? Because I'm doubtful that you honestly can...Also, "you'd day". lol

Which gives you all the less reason not to fear death or pain in general. Unless they gave you a robotic nervous system or something.

What makes you think it would cost thousands of dollars? If the world goes all Megaman style and robots become a norm do you really think they'll be treated that much different than humans? If anything they might be easier to care for because we'd know basically everything about how their bodies would work. After all, we did create them.

i personally would not like immortality. i mean, yes, sure, you'd never die. but what would you spend the rest of eternity doing? you'd get bored of living eventually, even if everything does improve and new stuff appears. plus, it's the young actually intelligent minds of the next generation that has allowed things to progress, if we're all immortal robots, kids will be out the window, it'll be all the same old minds with their same, limited thoughts, progress will come to a halt as they run out of new, imaginative ideas... but hey, that's just what i think

Immortality draws a fine line for me - you are damned if you do it or damned if you do not. I don't know what to say about it, I could think of many times I would want to live forever but other times it would not work out well.
