Couldn't you chalk some of those reasons up to the fact that the cost of living nowadays is alot more expensive now than before?

But wouldn't the move to third-party hurt the industry as a whole?

Why would it? People get to play Nintendo games on any system that they want. How is that not a good thing?

Well, I'm talking from an Industry perspective.

Like, first of all... it's bad for competiton.
And secondly, the Industry would downsize considerably.

Many production plants would have to be minimized or shut down (from suppliers and the like), many thousands would have to be let go.

There would be one less competitor, big deal. It's not like Sony and MS consider Nintendo an actual competitor anyway.

The industry wouldn't downsize, Nintendo would downsize. It's not like there were massive layoffs throughout the industry when Sega went third-party.

You speak as if you never enjoyed a Nintendo console in your life.

I don't enjoy Nintendo consoles, I enjoy Nintendo games.

If you're gonna think like that, might as well have some hardware company that just makes a black box that plays everything.

It would. Back then Sega already had massive layoffs previously and the scale was much much much muuuuuuuuch smaller in comparison to nowdays.
