I think it's because Spanish is his primary language, and English is so dang hard to get correctly.
"I" (pronounced 'aye') and "Y" (pronounced 'why') sound really similar and could be easily confused.
I applaud his english typing skills. I've seen people whose primary language is english who type worse.
It's sad, really.
