and now to buy no new games and sit an wait for this... to be delayed... and delayed again... and again.

So, why does FFXIII get a trilogy?

Because Square had decided to try and salvage their "wreck" of a game (That I thought was actually pretty good) by making FFXIII-2 which got good reviews and had a very open ending, so that they could create another. Instead of just being sell-outs by cashing in of FFVII remakes every couple of years.

Why does every new Final Fantasy game after 7 get so much hate? You dont see LoZ games after OoT being detested on every new release...

Lol, you must be living under a rock.

Wind Waker was hated until Twilight Princess came out. Then suddenly Wind Waker was good.
Twilight Princess was hated until Skyward Sword came out. Then suddenly Twilight Princess was good.
Skyward Sword wasa also hated until release.

I still hate it, because it just fucking sucks.

I know Wind Waker was despised... until people actually played it. But that doesnt answer the question on why Final Fantasy gets all the fan-faggotry on it?

Final fantasy VII fanboys. You know, the ones who aren't actual fans of the series but rather one game, and thus believe that every one that isn't FFVII sucks.

Some of these also exist for FFX but they aren't as abundant.

Um, no
People don't say that for FFIX. But After FFIX, the final fantasy games have dropped in quality.
FFX with how f*ck annoying Tidus was
Never played FFXI
FFXII had a boring ass political story
And FFXIII took away all things that made Final Fantasy what it is and just became some JRPG with the Final Fantasy name attached to it.

Also, can I just say this trailer looks like ass? Those graphics and framerate for a SquareEnix game of all things has me worried...

What? So square aren't allowed to vary their games? From what I gather from your post, you want all the final fantasy games to follow set guidelines and be the same thing over and over. This isn't CoD we are playing.

You change the formula a bit, but leave the core - people complain.
You dont change the forumla and leave it the same to please the fans - people complain.

And what did we learn today, kids?
That People will complain either way and Developers will just do the Projects they want to do and enjoy making, to make their dream products.

Um... that's kinda what a franchise is supposed to do... If Square wanted to create a new experience they'd make a new IP

No.
A Franchise is supposed to evolve and change the formula.
It is supposed to move along with the times, while still being itself.

Which is what Final Fantasy does almost perfectly.
This is what the Developers want THEIR Work to be.

Then, there is the exact oposite of developers, who play it safe.
Enter Dynasty Warriors and Call of Duty.

Change the formula? I don't think so
I believe a franchise is supposed to be a consistent collection of ideas(the formula) that you add to with every iteration.
Like the Kirby franchise, The formula being that it's a platformer where the main character flies and attacks by sucking up enemies
You start the franchise barebones for the first game, then add to that with each new game
I can't say much about the first 3 Kirby games, But what Kirby 64 added was the power to combine powers, then The Amazing Mirror added the idea of 4-player co op and gave the existing forms more abilitites, and Squeak Squad added the ability to store power ups, things like that. Then look at Kirby's Epic Yarn, they took away/changed the Kirby formula, that is, took away his power to fly and suck up enemies, so then, why did this have to be Kirby game?

Final Fantasy DID do this perfectly up until FFXIII
Unlike the other Final Fantasies, XIII does not have an overworld, does not have the ability to control your team during combat, does not have neither of the 2 main Final Fantasy themes, doesn't even have the Final Fantasy victory theme, party doesn't learn Ultima, the linearity of the game,
I mean, I ask you, what in FFXIII felt like a Final Fantasy game? Chocobos, Moogles and other classic Final Fantasy enemies? They felt more like references than anything...

Heck, you can even look at the new DMC, with all the sh*t they've changed with it, the game still feels like a Devil May Cry game and not a Devil May Cryish action game cause the core formula is still intact.

And that Call of Duty argument of being the "same game" is only true for World at War and MW2. Try playing BLOPII like you play COD4 and see what happens to you.

and they tried hard to please the fans with XII-2 and now Lightning Returns, while retaining THEIR Idea of THEIR Game.

What if you developed a sequel to your childhood dream game and changed it up a bit and everyone would hate you then?
Then you'd try really hard to still get your ideas through while pleasing your fans and everyone still hates you?

Notice I've never said any smack about XIII-2. If XIII-2 was the original XIII, then the only complaint is the non-existence of the main Final Fantasy themes, which of course, would be nitpicks.

Retro Studios does this all the f*cking time with no fail... Don't add stupid sh*t that have nothing to do with the formula.

The game was great and showed that Square hasn't completely f*cking lost it. To me, making a XIII-3 is kinda pushing it, especially with fans being very impatient for KH3 and Versus XIII

Those arent the same development teams though.

The Kingdom Hearts Team just recently put out Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance and the Versus XIII Team...

I dont think anyone is talking about the Wii U when talking about next-gen consoles. lol
I dont think there are any developers that care about the Wii U either, when talking about next-gen projects - hence why the talk is always about "upcoming next-gen consoles."

Infact, i dont think anyone even cares about porting current gen games to the Wii U.
I mean, look at all these 360/PS3 games in 2013 coming to the Wii U!

Infact, i dont think there is anyone that cares about the Wii U... period.

Most people view it as a Dreamcast of this Generation.
A Weird Middle-Thing, not really next-gen but not really current-gen either.

I am not speaking for me here, i'm just saying what i believe Developers and the (Mainstream) Gamer is thinking. What i observe.
We will find out the fate of the Wii U at E32013.

And no, this situation is not like the Vita's.
Sony rode the Vita train down the hill by themselves while the Wii U will most likely be at the same spot as the Wii.
That is my guess anyway, again, we'll see at E3.

A Weird Middle-Thing, not really next-gen but not really current-gen either.

The Dreamcast was actually impressive for its time though.
The Wii U is definitely current gen tech-wise considering it is not noticeably more powerful than the 360 or PS3.

I say Wii-U is more powerful cause it has seamless transitions between checking the web browser and going back to the game from what I've seen.

Also, isn't it still too early to cast away the Wii U?

That's odd, because I've heard that the Wii U OS is very slow at loading things. And even if it were fast, a speedier OS doesn't mean much when the games look the same.

I'm not casting away the Wii U, but it seems like it's just going to be the Wii all over again, albeit less successful.

Because the console isn't even a year old, I'll blame the deelopers for the games looking the same, not the console

I mean, early PS3 games looked like pretty PS2 games, and remember early Xbox360?

Title: Re: Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
Post by: shadowDOESrock on July 22, 2013, 08:50:54 AM
QuoteSpeaking with Dengeki, the game's design director Yuji Abe explained that while the game is based around the concept of the world coming to an end in 13 days, he added that players will be able to halt time using the Glory Point, or 'GP' system.

Abe explained, "The gauge on the lower-left part of the screen is called GP, which is something like a convenience point system. This can be used during battle, to teleport to specific areas on the field, or to even stop time. For example, if you have a lot going on (and not enough time), you'll be able to stop time. So, if you go ahead and use GP without any hesitation, your playthrough will surely be easier."

"It stands for Glory Point, which can be acquired upon clearing battles. Originally, it was part of the Radiant Power (points given to the Tree of Life, Yggdrasil, to extend the lifespan of the world) but that would weigh in on the balance of the world's life span, so we separated it so as to not cause any hesitation. Now, it can be used without having to worry about the world's life span."

Abe then shed some light on what will happen if players decide not to use GP to halt time's flow, "I believe there will be a huge hurdle to doing that; however, Lightning will be able to level up by simply clearing key events, which will increase her parameters. Again, if you want to increase her parameters by a larger amount, you can also purchase equipment."

Regarding the game's open world, Abe stressed that most players wont find all of the game's tucked away areas and dungeons on the first try, and that the open world will be seamless and without loading times, except for whenever you teleport across it, or when you get into a vehicle.

Though 8 has now appeared on steam, I have heard good things about 8 but haven't played it myself. at least with it you miss the massive amounts of hype that build up 7 to be more than it actually is.

So
Not only does this game screw with my heart on what Final Fantasy means to me.
Not only did it call the characters I cared about
But now it's gonna "ruin" the only thing I found salvagable about this whole mess?

This trilogy is dead to me.

No, fuck you, and fuck this game, and everything related to it, I hope you all dissappear forever.

I'll be enjoying the fuck outta the vastly superior Bravely Default which is better in EVERY WAY!

...Wind, we can't be friends anymore after how badly you just butchered that.

Her name is Saber and she's from Fate/Stay Night. Or the the Fate/ series if you wanna be a hardass about it.

That said I saw the similarities. Thus, Saber being my #1 waifu, I did a quick Google search.

http://www.deviantart.com/art/shit-color-Saber-rkx07-367443787 (http://www.deviantart.com/art/shit-color-Saber-rkx07-367443787)

This apparently is the image's source. This guy took a page from a manga or a Doushinji of some sort and colored it. So yeah, it's Saber, though I assume that the text was added in by someone else. It's stupidly easy to do so it doesn't surprise me. I'm not going to find the black and white source, though. Knowing it's Saber is enough for me.

Well, I tried the demo.

So much questionable decisions... Like, the inventory, that time limit.

But as a video game, I can see people having fun with it, I'm just glad Square fixed the f*cking framerate.

But you all know how I truly feel about it.

Now, I checked out the Demo myself...
Wow, this is an amazing real-time battle system. This should have been in FF13 from begin with.

I dont like the costumes they gave Lightning though. They're 'JRPG as fuck'.

If the original FF13 played like this, it would've been great, woulda cleared up most of my "issues".

But I must wonder why they thought to bring back Dresspheres of all things... and why a solo JRPG...

There aren't that many rail shooters, should the next Syndicate game be a rail shooter?

And why are you taking a franchise that is known for it's 3-4 parties, and making it a solo JRPG rather than making a new solo JRPG? Is the earth doomed if Final Fantasy specifically doesn't make a solo JRPG?

The team can make whatever they want, just don't attach it to a franchise that's well known for doing something else.

Okay, so.. no Solo RPG's allowed.
What about MMOs,  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XIV)strategy games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Tactics), racing games (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Chocobo_Racing), shooters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirge_of_Cerberus:_Final_Fantasy_VII) and rhythm games? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theatrhythm_Final_Fantasy)
Title: Re: Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

The strategy, racing and rythm games are un-numbered  spin-offs, which I've already said I'm fine with.

The shooter game is a spin-off-ish/sequel to FFVII. It's a shooter game taking place in the FFVII universe, which I'm cool with. If it was FFVII-2, then I'd have a problem.

The MMO, why not just call it Final Fantasy:A Realm Reborn, or some other weird title, why does the XIV have to be there? Could've even been lazy and just said FF:Online, then FF:Online-2 >.>

I would like similarly named things to do similar things. I would like things to be consistent, it makes the "what game should I play next" phase easier.

"I just finished Tales of Legendia and really liked it, I wanna try something similar to that but not exactly the same, so I'm gonna pick up Tales of the Abyss"

I dun wanna find live in a future where
"I finished Final Fantasy V, I wanna try something similar to that, but not exactly the same, so I'll search the internet for story focused video games with turn based gameplay and large open worlds with condensed dungeons that also have a job system. *After some searching* I found this game called Bravely Default"
becomes the norm for me to find shit.

If I play a game called Red Dead Redemption and like it, I wanna be able to just search "Red Dead", find Red Dead Revolver, and have a similar enjoyable experience, rinse and repeat till I've played all of 'em.

And if I don't want an experience, I should be able to know where NOT to look. God forbid the ultimate anime fighting game with Mario and Sonic guest starring is titled "Madden Football 2017"...
