GameBoy Color was a substantial upgrade to the last platform. This isnt.
This is the same fucking platform, with a slightly enhanced processor and a tiny tiny, very tiny c-stick.
And I dont remember any exclusive DSi games.

And there were a few retail DSi-exclusive games. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_DSi#Software_library)

Yes but it's not like the New 3DS renders his old 3DS useless. Nintendo and third-parties would be crazy not to continue supporting the regular 3DS.

The problem is the other way around, much like the DSi, there are gonna be games for that new 3DS that can't be played on the old one, while the new one can play both.
Surely even you can find this frustrating.

Doubly sucks cause you barely bought games for it.
Okay, after talking to Nazo about this, my opinion changed a bit.
I still think it's a dick move though.
I'll hold judgement until after release
We don't know what the New 3DS exclusives will be. The true 3DS successor should be coming soon so I doubt they'll put that much effort into great exclusives.
And if the exclusives do end up being amazing, you can always sell your 3DS XL for like $100 and buy the New 3DS for $30 more.
That is, if your game store allows you to do such a thing.
Sell it on Ebay.
I'm more pissed about Shulk.

Quotelol... Yet another cash grab. Why not just market it as a completely new handheld 3 years into the 3DS' lifespan? 'Cuz that's essentially what they're doing.
I've bought into a lot of system remodels over my years of gaming... PSone, PS2 Slim, GBA SP, PS3 Slim and more, but all were able to play newer games that came out, as well as older games. Why? Because they weren't marketed as new systems.
When you split your gaming library for a particular system... that's called making a new system. And, Nintendo isn't marketing it like one, which is what makes me mad. They're getting a game on it that would sell like hotcakes, and basically making a new system for it to get the aforementioned cash grab a-goin'.
There's no point in adopting a system when months later they release another one that looks identical, but plays different games you can't currently use.
Nintendo's magnificent marketing team at work again.
So Smash 3DS supports the extra buttons/nub on the new 3DS but doesn't support the Circle Pad Pro.

Nintendo doesn't consider it to be its own generation, and many games were compatible with both the GB and GBC.
I always thought it went Gameboy > Gameboy Color > Gameboy Advance.
Well I learned something new today. I'll probably forget it in a week but never the less.
Fun fact: If you consider the new 3DS to be a new console, then the old 3DS lasted as long as the GBA (both were on the market for about 44 months without a successor). So if you're disappointed that the old 3DS is being "replaced" so soon, surely you were also upset about the GBA's short life. If you consider the GBC to be separate from the GB, that had an even shorter life.

Should they have called it the 3DS 2? yeah that's not confusing, what happens when the 2DS 2 comes out? I think the name's fine for what it is. At least it conveys that this is a new thing better than "Wii U" did.
With the customizable faceplates, they COULD have called it "YoUr 3DS".
I honestly don't think the name is a big deal. As long as Nintendo puts the full name "~new~ NINTENDO 3DS" on the packaging people will know that it's a new revision of the 3DS.
It will be weird in a couple years when people still have to refer to these models as "the new 3DS" even though they're old. It's kinda like the New Super Mario Bros. games in that regard.

Miiverse.
So you won't be able to post Smash 3DS screenshots onto Miiverse with the old 3DS' because the game uses up the RAM normally reserved for multitasking applications. You also won't be able to use the internet browser while playing Smash (but why would you ever use the 3DS internet browser?). However, the new 3DS' will be able to access Miiverse and the web browser with Smash playing since they have more RAM. You can't really fault Nintendo for this one since they did it to make the game look and run better. Screenshots can still be taken in-game, they just can't be posted to Miiverse unless you have a new 3DS.
This is sounding more and more like a necessary evil if you ask me.
You can still post screenshots online so I don't see the problem.
Wow, when you close the Smash Bros demo it actually resets your 3DS instead of just closing the game. Apparently Monster Hunter 4U does the same thing and both games are confirmed to be "new 3DS-enhanced". I'm assuming it doesn't reset if you're playing on a new 3DS.

Nah, I doubt Sakurai even knew about the New 3DS when they started developing the game. Besides, the only thing old 3DS users are missing out on is Miiverse. If it were really meant to be a New 3DS game, don't you think it would have some exclusive New 3DS features like better graphics and stuff?

But it
is designed to work with the rest of the system. Disabling Miiverse was a compromise to make the game run a bit better, and after playing the demo I'd say it was worth it.
And the current theory about the exclusion of the CPP is that they want the IR port to be used for Amiibos instead. It's still dumb that they don't give people the choice, but I doubt it's because they want to exclude old 3DS owners.

Disabling features to make a game run, is not designing around the system.

Aside from having to shut down system functions and a lack of compatibility for control options.
Also, the 'Amiibo' explaination is silly, since it could clearly do one or the other. There's no need to reserve the spot.
Also also, we don't know yet if it runs 'exactly the same' on NEW 3DS.

So what? It's still running on the original hardware.
And yes, I also think the Amiibo excuse is silly but this is Nintendo we're talking about.
