I still don't really like how they did the order there, but I guess there's no huge problem about it. I'd like to hear your reasoning though, something other than the fanbase saying Sonic 2 and Sonic CD were right next to each other.

Sonic CD was never really connected to the story line of the classics... according to Sega. So Sonic 4 was the only way for them to bridge everything together.

but that would mean that scene in Sonic Adventure where Amy was reminiscing Sonic C.D would have existed
